All this talk about Italian leather has me concerned about human rights in Italia!
Can't they make the leather out of cowhide instead of those poor Italians?

If it don't do something to the dreaded neck diving of basses, I don't think I'll ever spend that dough on any strap. You have to have some threshold of originality or cunning idea of it, to solve problems for real. If not head diving, maybe a material that adds to the density of the body and removes dead spots? Or being able to hold the bass stilll when doing on stage antics like a "bass swing" around the body?

If one don't bring something new to the recipy, then don't put it out on market. It's just a posh strap. Not that different from any other strap that's posh too.

I would love to and automatically adjusting strap, to sense my body length, and bass guitar body weight, and adjust accordingly. Mechanically without electronics, at that price. Of course I can set that myself manually too, as I always want to keep any bass in a certain position that is comfortable for me. But that's the thing, if I change bass I can use the same strap, and no matter how the other bass is designed, the strap adjusts automatically to my set preferences. Up under the chin, or low slung punk style. Or anything in between. I have yet to see a strap, with a simple function, that it doesn't fall down the back when sitting down and then standing up. It should stay the same place, or adjust accordingly. No matter what level it's set at. I e that when I am standing up it should be low slung, or vice versa.

At that price at at least.

How soft is the leather compared to Moody? My son has 2 of their straps, which are very soft, comfortable leather.

I also have a Moody, and the Ethos straps are softer, and better looking. I've only bought one Moody, and bought five Ethos, if that tells you anything.
I like the Italias also, I have five of them too.

It's a joke. Stu Sutcliffe couldn't really play bass so he kept his back to the audience so they couldn't see!
I don't play with back to the audience, I just turn around once or twice during each song so they can see my strap.

$75 for a $150 strap is a GREAT deal. What kind is it?

I worded that badly. What I meant to say was that I bought a $75 leather strap for half price...$37.50, actually $35 if I'm not mistaken.
Checking now, I see that the padded leather straps are $84.95...but I think they're worth it. Glove-soft and so many colors to choose from.

Agreed. I have always found it a little "weird" in the sense that we, as bass players will drop serious coin on an instrument and then spend $12.95 on a strap. I have done that very thing for the vast majority of my playing career. So, when the opportunity presented itself (Thanks Wifey!) I was more than happy to "step up". Neck dive is a thing of the past and I can't tell you the number of people who have approached me to ask about the strap. It's a little thing - but extremely enjoyable!

These straps aren't for people that think they're a foolish waste of money, or for the people that can't afford them. If people are happy with their non-elitist 5 for 10 Musicians Gear straps and one step above Planet Zaganoid straps, that's great too. I own a couple Levys that are darn near retired and currently use a Neo Tech. I love the Neo Tech because it almost feels like it's not there and performs its function well, but I happened to misplace it the other day (because dumb) and grabbed my black&tan Levys that I've had almost as long as I've been playing and it felt very good.

Something about the cool feel of the padded leather and the way it sat on my shoulder felt like home. I don't think wide, padded leather straps are a waste of money under $150 if they're comfortable and have a good company that stands behind their product. My shoulders are paying the price for years of using run of the mill nylon straps because before that, all I cared about was that it didn't fall off.

I own three Neotech straps...two with Speed Locks and one with the Cam Lock.

me, I saw a cool strap with a lightning bolt on it at the local pawn shop
I took the Ibanez RG it was attached to up to the counter & asked how much for just the strap

It's the second highest amount I've paid for a strap, $10
the highest being a Comfort Strapp

oh, I was also offered the soft case it came in for $35 & bought that as well

I love a well made leather strap, and the SBL ones definitely seem worth a shot to me - just ordered two. $117 includes international shipping btw.

The Ethos straps look absolutely amazing, I'm gonna hint my wife about those as my birthday is coming up in June.

I'm on Devine's mailing list (have been enjoying his freebie lessons quite a bit), and he says there are still a few straps left from this production run.

Yep. I'm in. I've been on the list since he first announced a second run. I've been waiting for a decent strap to replace my ol' 4" wide nylon strap that's done serious duty for years but also has a tendency to slip. I also have a narrower black suede strap I use for my other bass, but have some funkiness as I can't quite get it as short as I like. I'm hoping this one has enough play to get it where I want.

I don't mind the logo, which appears to be fairly small. If I decide it sucks, I'll just unstitch it and keep going.

End cost with shipping is 117$ from the UK. Not cheap, but then, I'm also spending decent cash on the right strings for my bass, plus shipping from Canada, so this is the same as roughly two sets of strings for me.

Deal breakers: can't get it short enough or can't get strap locks installed. I'll tell y'all if any of this happens.
