I don't think I'll ever take the tapes off my chocolate SG. Tapes just make that bass sing. Have high beams on the fireburst. Totally different world. Its amazing how much strings can change the way a bass sounds.
I was thinking about putting La Bella White silvers or golds (both fairly bright sounding tapes) on one of my SGs and leaving the nickel rounds on the other SG.
What kind of sound difference to you get out of your two different strung SGs?
Any chance you could post a short sound clip of each one?
The Chocolate with the Black tapes gives me a straight thumpy thuddy kind of sound. Which is the main reason I bought it in the first place but when I put the tapes on it really came to life and gave me the perfect tone I was looking for.
The high beams that I have on the fireburst makes it sound alot like my Thunderbird which also has high beams but with a touch of thump to it. Definitely brighter and more modern sounding.
I'll work on the sound clip. Might take me a day or so.

Then another short pause and the fireburst SG playing the same thing, first finger style, then with a pick. I recorded this on my MicroBR with out adjusting any of the eq on the clean bass setting. The fireburst has DR high beams.

The D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewounds play great on both my Short Scale, and Long Scales. Fenders, and a Ric.
If you have used them on a 34" scale, the difference in tension from the rounds to nylons are similar.
I made a few bridge adjustments but didn't feel like they were difficult to play
Not at all. The tension is great. Great, round bass sound with very little finger noise. Sound great fingerstyle, with a pick and especially palm-muted. Still love mine.
After posting this, I strung the SG Spl. with D'Addario ETB92M Nylon Tapewounds. They fit well, I just like their feel a bit better on the short scale SG Spl. The ETB92M's bring the silks higher up from the nut, but still leaves enough silk on the winding peg. The tension feels great.
Great sounds clips. The neck is very crisp and defined, still think and heady. Curious how it would be in the mix
Great sounding pups. Especially like the 2 together. That is going to have me wanting one of those for my Epi.

I'm like 95% certain it will fit. The case was made for current Epiphone EB3's, which are long scale like your old Gibson.
I'm using an Epi case for my old '68 EB0 and the body fits perfectly. The EB0 is short scale of course but there is plenty of lateral room for the tuners. I'm thinking the only issue might be if your older Gibson EB3-L is longer than the new Epiphone EB3's.
I just measured my Epi case and the internal length is 46-1/4 inches long. The headstock area measures 7-1/2 inches across at the widest point. Nice case BTW. For $90 I was impressed with what I got.
Unless your EB3-L is longer than 46" I think you're probably OK.
