Thanks so much - it was all improv so it's nice when it comes together like that, and equally nice to have it recorded. I especially like the section at around 53 minutes. The bass is strung with heavy gauge GHS Pressure-wounds. I like and use flats (GHS and LaBella) on other basses but for me a P-bass needs that grit that only rounds can deliver.

Thanks so much for your kind words! Dig the Eric Truffaz vid/music - thanks for introducing me to it. We're all pupils of Miles when it comes to music like this. Miles, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Les McCann, Tortoise, Nels Cline - deep roots with open ears and a willingness to explore. :thumbsup:

This is my buddy Carls' 68 SG. It used to belong to friend of his that died last year and he inherited it. The hole in the headstock is to hang it on a nail. The neck was broken more than once. It was playable fairly recently and is now apart for some work? (Ya think)

I would have loved to see him then! I saw Miles twice when he came back after his late 70's hermitage - the "Man With The Horn" album ('81). I love all of his eras/periods but the 69-75 period is still my favorite.

All the stuff this guy inherited from the friend that died is crazy. They (the deceased and the guitarist and drummer friends) were/are mad scientist type experimenters. He took an early SVT and added 4 !!!!!! Powertubes (OMG) it was functional. They are going to restore it to original. He was an organ player so they got several Hammonds. My buddy lives with the drummer from their childhood band who also is an inveterate tinkerer. They restore Hammonds together, their work is impeccable and the finished organs are better than new.

Good point Kirk - we all get so wrapped up with the tool and need to step back and remember it's the solid foundation you build with that tool and its part in the song that's most important. :bassist: (and .., a good tool helps! ;))

My old BTB: I loved this bass, great sounding and a killer wide neck. After sitting around for a few years, I went to sell it and I couldn't give it away... Ended up selling it for a couple hundred to a guy in Alabama who fell in love with it.

Pictures are crappy, but this is a St George TBird copy that I had fun desecrating when I was a bit younger... It's even been set on fire. It's still has the Gibson TBird pickup in it; at one time it had a Bartolini preamp in it as well. I still have it and have been threatening to put it back together for years. Maybe one day. Ahhhh youth. :D
