An excellent bass, but heavy. It has baselines in it now and it is strung with flats, but everything else is original. I have the original pu if I wanted to put her back to stock.

Not to hijack the thread, but I found a guy that used to work for Lado a number of years back. He wasn't there long, perhaps a year or two, then moved on to build violins and such from scratch.
He has opened a repair shop in his home in Pickering, doing his own builds as well as repairs. Really nice guy and man does he know wood!
I brought my Pedulla Rapture to him as the truss rod was completely locked, not allowing for a decent playing set up. He pulled the finger board, replaced the truss rod with a rod system he built for it, did a full set and had it back to me in good time. (Actually, it took a little longer than expected as he had to wait for the proper humidity levels before gluing the finger board back onto the neck)

Sorry to post without actually putting up a picture but this is actually my first posting on here after finding the forum while seeking information on the Lado Falcon bass. I do have one but I'm puzzled as to what all the switches are. The obvious pickup selector switch I understand, as well as the volume and 2 tone knobs. But then there's another knob that I have no idea what it's actually doing, as well as 4 mini-switches. If anyone could clue a clueless fell in, I'd greatly appreciate it. I absolutely LOVE this bass but can't really find out much information on it. Thanks for any help.

I own two and they were both purchased from a small music shop in Lindsay, ON.
The Hawk series is upgraded with an LR baggs element VTC and the standard was the first of 65 to be made in Lindsay(So it says inside the battery cover)... And man do they ever sound great through The Neo410

I actually bought the Lado Medallion you have shown off EBay. That was the easy bit, the seller then wouldn't accept my payment. I complained to EBay but there was nothing they could do. I was so disappointed.

The silver lining is he didn't take your money and not send you the bass.
I'm always on the look for models from the 80's for refinishing, if you see one and you don't want it let me know.

That is strange indeed. I bought that bass a couple weeks ago. They accepted my payment, but took a long time to ship and weren't responing to my emails about it. In fact, I was starting to wonder if I was being scammed by a hacked ebay account. It finally arrived yesterday.

Wow, the beauty of the Internet. I "bought it now" on eBay on the 15 Dec last year from Stinson and Co. I won it for $799. Joe, the dude from Stinson and Co stuffed around, after initially emailing me he then did not respond to emails etc. I complained to EBay and he finally emailed me and said I was getting worked up over nothing. That's fine, well get on with it then, he then completely ignored all correspondence, I tried to contact Stinson and Co by phone but that proved very difficult. My misfortune is your good luck I suppose.
How does the bass play by the way? And if you don't mind, how much did you pay for the bass?

Sorry you didn't get this one, as you seem to have been pretty keen for it here's a rundown..
It's pretty much brand new as far as I can tell. I don't think anyone played it ever, not just because there isn't a mark on it, but mainly 'cause what appeared to be the factory setup, was atrocious.
No one would play it the way it came to me. Had to cut the nut slots way down, tweak the rod, then dismantle the quirky bridge to see why the E string saddle would not go low enough.
Turns out, the little string support pieces are each a different height, and they were installed in reverse order at the factory, like for a left handed bass.
Reassembled the bridge, made drastic adjustments. The bridge is a beautifully machined, 3-way adjustable unit, but is a PITA to work on.Anyway, it plays nicely now and will play even better after it settles in and I can make some final tweaks. The top strap button (you no doubt noticed) is on the back of the horn, ala Conklin. It's at the 15th fret, which is a little "reachy" for me. If I move it to the tip of the horn it'll be at the 14th fret. Might do that.
Seller had the woods wrong in the listing. The woods are maple core w/purple heart stringers, purple heart front body facing, purple heart headstock facing, and afromosia (African teak) rear body facing. Indian rosewood board. Clear natural finish.
EMG DC35 pickups (my faves) with a BTS 2-band, with internal dip switches to set mid-freq center. Copper foil shielded cavity.
My first Lado, always wanted to try one. Couldn't pass it up for the price. PM headed your way.

Yes I am down in Australia, postage from US to here is really steep if normal parcel services are used (about $400)! I have a US address that receives and then forwards for under $200.
For the Lado it would have cost about $220 total but would have still been worth it for that bass i.e. a modern Lado bass for about $1000. It was on EBay for quite a long time, it was listed 3 times, each time coming down by $100. It started off at $1100, I was surprised no one bought it. When it went to $800 I bought it (so I thought).
Sounds like there was a lot to do to bring the bass up to grade.
Good luck with the bass, it's found a good home.
