But, running:

into

RigOfDoom001.gif

(w/ those settings)

and finally into

RigOfDoom002.gif

Generates some serious air pressure!

Just wait till I get the chance to try out a 1500+Watt Power Amp...

wow, i want that rig sooooooooo bad. wonder how different the DB810 will sound with the Db750 as opposed to the S810.... still, you have an amazing rig.

I'm kind of wondering the same thing. I don't know if I can justify the extra cash and weight. Have you seen how much that thing weighs? More than an SVT810e, however...I bet it sounds a hell of a lot better too. :D

and thanks for the compliment on the rig.

If the DB410 is any indicator to the Greatness of the DB810, then yes, it will totally dominate.

I currently own a DB410 and it blows away my old Ampeg SVT810E, and that's only 1/2 the speakers!!

poon, do you use that avalon simply as a DI or do you use it as a pre aswell?

If you use it as a DI, where in your chain do you place it?

Very, very, very nice rig by the way.

I use it as a DI...purely DI. Soundmen and engineers love me.

Chain goes as follows.

Bass (Spector, F-Bass, or Valenti, depending on ocassion)--> Avalon U5 out of the "thru output" --> DBX 160A Compressor --> Aguilar DB750 with a sansamp rbi (soon to come) though the effects loop.

All of that into an aguilar s810 or bergie nv610:D

Avalon as a DI? Hmmmm..... PM me and give me the run down. Sounds intriguing.

A lot of people use the U5 as a pure DI. They are really popular with big touring bands. I tried one after a lot of producers recommended them to me. I've seen the guys in incubus, nickleback (ehhh...), etc etc etc use them, but the guys that really got me into it were the people in John Mayer's Camp.

I love david's playing and his tone, so I had to try the combo.
"Giving up significant audiophile secrets, Chad explains he uses three signals on the bass guitar. “I use a pair of Avalon DI’s – one is a straight DI, one with a Sansamp, and I also take a direct out of the head. The Sansamp is for the balls, the Avalon is for the definition, and believe it or not, the SVT head has all the low frequency information - as low as you want to go. And depending on the room, I’ll roll it differently.”"

Here's mine - i wouldn't call it a doom rig - but i can easily dominate my band when i want to (which i don't usually)
It's a modded Yammy with a SD BassLines Alnico pup thru a SD BassLines preamp => Ampeg SVPCL => PeakAudio USA1600 amp => my homemade 15" cabs.

hmmm..replace that ampeg pre with my svp pro, those 15"s with a hartke 2x15 (or peavey 410tx), and that'll be my rig in a year or so:D
