Didn't read all the pages, but some of the stuff I saw on page 1 I would say is simple but not particularly hypnotic. Billie Jean is not hypnotic to me.

Those "simple/hypnotic" bass lines are usually the least understood/underrated bass lines there are. It takes a player with a good feel for the instrument to be able to pull them off and do it well without projecting a sense of boredom to the crowd. By that I primarily mean maintaining a good, even tempo as opposed to looking bored.
