We had a similar christmas - also got a Squier VM jazz and the same Levy strap. Sub the Green Russian for some Sony studio cans. Nice score - I'm super impressed with the VMJ after a setup.
I'm in the homestretch on my months long Warmoth Dinky J MM build. Did the electronics today. Came up with a different twist. I didn't want to drill the face of the instrument for passive / pickup select toggle switches I will never use. I was going to bury the switches in the cavity. Then it struck me that there IS a use for the second battery box if you only have a 9V preamp. I kept the switches accessible for emergency but off the face of the instrument. I'll call this bass my Christmas present to me.

Santa got me a brand-new Rickenbacker jetglo 4003S bass, and a used Phil Jones Roadcase BG-800 to play it through. Apparently I was a very good boy this year.
Secret Santa at work got me some nice headphones. I work night shift in the operating room at a trauma center so during downtime when I’m pulling supplies for the next day I’m always listening to music with headphones.
I’ve decided to spend the $400 in cash I got on a new laptop. Nothing crazy, not MacBook Pro or anything like that but I was surprised while looking online My wife and I were able find an new HP with double the ram and storage of my last laptop. I pretty much use computers these days exclusively for music stuff. I’m a big fan of buying actual CDs and uploading them to be iTunes and having them on both CD and the ability to have them in my phone. Instead of paying the same price or more to just have a digital copy. On my last laptop I was using it a lot practicing keyboards and editing midi which really helped me prepare for the studio last go around. Because I did all the strings and piano parts in the studio. So I plan to download reaper and my virtual instrument software right away. Also going to try some basic video editing. Don’t plan on making professional movies or anything but if I can edit 5 minute videos for YouTube that would be cool.

You certainly may. I have played the Phil Jones BG-800 at a few gigs already, and it's as wonderful as it looks. I haven't received the Ric yet -- UPS started their Christmas break before it got to my house. (When Santa's feeling tired or lazy, he cheats and uses UPS.)
3 music related t-shirts (Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Fender), a bottle of single malt scotch, two sweatshirts, a gift card for Olive Garden, a shot glass (I collect them), an electric razor, Star Wars Rogue One blue ray, some money.
No bass related items but bought myself a couple of sets of strings and some polishing cloths.

I did a 3-band install in my $$4 + an SNC Haz 3-band install in my NS-2A.
They were playing board games and finally leaving me alone for the first time in a month.

a new fender mustang, a setup for an old bass, new tapewounds, a pair of rokit 5 monitors, a focusrite 2i2, a pair of bartolini j pickups for the old bass, a soldering kit so I can install said pickups, some fast fret, some fretboard cleaner, a nice microfiber cloth, a new string snipper, new strap...

I was trying to get a friend to try Laphroigh with me once, I told him "it's great, it tastes like peat moss and iodine!" - he gives me this funny shade-eye "how can that possibly be good?" look, suspiciously takes a sip.... ....then smiles in understanding.
