I was a Markbass “early adopter”, back in 2006. At 44 lb, my 210 combo was not much more than half the weight of my previous small gig rig, a Hartke 3000 head plus 2.5xl cab. That was actually a great little setup, but my CMD102P kicked its ass in every single respect. I also added a 115 extension cab later. MB gear certainly does the “light but loud” trick really very well. I’m still a big fan (yes, including the colours) despite currently being in love with my Mesa TT800 head plus GR AT212 graphite cab.
I’m guessing the Markbass “revolution” they’re announcing might be graphite related, in which case it will be really disingenuous of them if they try to ignore the fact that GR have beaten them to it. But I’ll be interested to check out what they’re offering. I would love to be able to backup the GR graphite 212 cab with a Markbass equivalent, perhaps. But MB58R? Eight 5” drivers? Shouldn’t that be MB85R, looking at their current numbering system? And what’s the R? Reflex rather than sealed?
My best guess - eight 5” drivers in a ported graphite cab, with respectable power handling, weighing in at around the 20 lb mark. And possibly a combo version? Hey, how about battery powered?
