Midi wise, one of these days I'm going to get a midi knob panel that allows me to send knob control numbers to Midi CC and I'll assign them to the C4 and Ultrawave's Midi map. Then I can twiddle any number of the C4 and Ultrawave's controls in real time

Oh man, thanks for that…. MIDI controller panels and knobs is a deep rabbit hole, I’m browsing already! ;)

I got my C4 today and played with it for a while using the Neuro app on my phone to go through the factory and community presets. Found a few sounds that I liked, but man the extreme variations in volume between different community presets is annoying.

The quick start guide and the user manual both describe the first knob as "Input Level" and describe the "input level calibration" procedure, which I followed. But then the Neuro app has a parameter in each preset called "input gain". Do these different names mean they're controlling different things?

If they're actually the same thing that would mean I need to adjust "input gain" on every patch I download through the app and then (re)save the patch with that new setting, but neither quick start card nor manual say anything about repeating the procedure, indeed the manual says "the process is complete" which implies it won't need to be done again for the same bass.

Yes, the calibration procedure regulates processor input gain 1 and this is a per-preset setting. As annoying as the volume differences may be, it’s simply a reality that you’ll have to deal with as users obviously create their sounds using vastly different setups. Simply adjust the input gain and output volume for your setup and overwrite the preset.

OK, thanks for your help. So I guess I don't need to do the knob twisting, green/red light calibration method each time, I can get the same result faster by noting the input gain value shown in the Windows app (which I've downloaded but not used yet, but I gather it does read current pedal settings) after an initial calibration and then set other presets to use the same value. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

That should work, providing you’re feeding it the same signal each time.

Hi! I'm looking for controller with 3 separate buttons to: 1. Turn C4 on with single tap 2. Select next preset 3. Select previous preset

I've used DMC micro but sold it because to activate C4 I had to tap&HOLD which I just couldn't get around while switching on/off in the middle of the song (I literally couldn't get it on time like... ever)

Do you know if DMC midi baby 3 or DMC 3XL Gen3 would do the job?

The DMC Micro probably would have worked fine for you if you had programmed it in “preset mode,” which allows you to scroll through presets that include MIDI messages to bypass or engage the C4 every time you hit a button (and you also wouldn’t have been tied to the order of presets as you saved them in the C4)- it just requires you to do some pre-programming to fit the set you are playing.

If you are really only looking for that functionality you mentioned though, probably the Midi Baby 3 would make the most sense as you can individually program each button’s messages. Unfortunately the nature of MIDI messages means you have to either choose for your internal presets to switch in bypassed or engaged state (this is an option in the C4 neuro control), so the ideal scenario is to program individual presets as I mentioned before in the state you will need them- so that a single button tap sends two messages, one to switch presets and one to select which bypass state you need. This is what the DMC Micro does if you understand how to program it (it sounds like you were using it in “device mode”, where you are only able to scroll up and down through the internal C4 presets and automatically engage or bypass the pedal on each scroll).

Dmc will be the same as micro in this aspect. A regular midi baby with a 2 button external switch could be programmed to do all that easily once you get to know how to use the web editor.

Thank you so much for the replies guys.

@nnnnnn yeah I think I was doing this or at least trying (using C4s own button) but somehow ended up failing - which is likely due to my own limitation. The pedalboard config was posted here and I see it was well feasible! Show me your compact pedalboard setup

@sunbeast you are right, I was using device mode (simply, the one from YouTube video from DMC on hooking C4 up). I'm not tech savvy and it's taking the toll now haha.

Both you and @Gibs210 suggest midi baby 3. So if I program the midi messages for each button to have 1. on or off 2. On&page up 3. On&page down (I am positive it will have to be with help of forums but that's another story...) I will be able to make it for my use case? I will be able to select my desired preset before the song (buttons 2 and 3), turn it off with button 1 and kick it on when needed with button 1. Just asking as I'm afraid I will shell out $$$ to no avail.

I’m not totally sure if a single button can do on and off as they are distinct MIDI messages, but I believe the Baby 3 can be programmed to toggle between two messages on successive presses like that (I haven’t used or looked too deeply into it)

I was actually saying the regular midi baby, you could actually do it all with a single switch, but the 2 button external switch would be more comfortable since it would all be two messages.

it’s one message, just different values. Or you could use the cc toggle bypass midi message and the value won’t matter.

Yes. Give me your MXR Bass envelope filter, you won’t be needing it and I want one again. :-D
I believe preset #4 on Spectrum is based on this pedal.

Do you know what the preset is called so I can find it in the Neuro app? When I browse in the app under the "factory" category only four Spectrum presets are shown, none of which seem to be based on the MXR pedal.

My guess would be ‘band pass’ is the factory preset for an MXR coz that’s what the MXR is. And ‘purple vice’ is the community version by Q which is great (and happily also ported to the C4)

It’s sort of the other way around normally: Spectrum patches can be loaded into C4 no problem, but patches created on C4 can’t be loaded into Spectrum (even if they only use features which are found on Spectrum). So basically, some sounds that I created on C4, I had to later port them to Spectrum.

Having said that, sometimes tweaking a Spectrum patch for C4 is necessary, such as when needing particular controls on the hardware knobs; this is because Spectrum has hard-wired alt parameters on the control knobs, so if you want access to one of those, you need to specifically program it on Spectrum.

That's awesome. Would I be able to use a Spectrum patch to set up an "auto-wah" type sound?

I can't believe how much this pedal delivers. I spent a decent amount of time yesterday setting up my synth for stereo. I have an all-pass setting I use for a flange/phase type effect. It sounded great in mono, but in stereo with my delay in stereo and running into two different amps it sounded beautiful.

By auto-Wah do you mean where the cutoff cycles automatically, independent of the input notes? Yes, you can simply assign the LFO to the cutoff.
