Source Audio OFD

I've only played the OFD for about 20 min. I have to say, you guys were not exaggerating!!! This thing is AWESOME!! Oh man, I'm so stoked! I a/b'd or with my rat king and I have to say it's pretty darn close. I may be taking it off soon. Every sound out of this pedal is simply marvelous. I already know one of my fav is going to be the TS9000. The crunch tube is super good too. I obviously won't know till I play it in a live setting but I'm thoroughly impressed. The clean blend is one of the best parts that makes it so versatile aside from the amount of dist/fuzz/OD's you get to choose from. It's really grand. I could honestly say that this would just about be an essential for any bassist that wants some dirt on his board. My opinion of course. I'm running it into my ODB3 at times and it sounds mean as all heck. My 4096 came in as well so in having a lotta fun over here right now. Very happy :)

Guitar players are not being so cooperative! "It looks like it will sound digital to me" was one of the comments we got!!

Hmmm,... I'm not surprised but that still sucks. I definitely got a bad taste for digi-crunch from the first generation of 'modeling' tech that left me highly unsatisfied when playing 6 string guitar. I'm definitely more open minded from playing bass though. That's weird, isn't it?!?

Aren't they all using AxeFX? :) They are spoiled with their 800$ all tube guitar combo amps.

I had a long/interesting conversation about the music gear industry with an amp/pedals/parts distributor up here last year. He had a lot of choice words about guitarists :)

tbh I think a lot of us on hear originally thought the same thing, but after a lot of good rep, people start to be more open minded about things. It took me a little while to warm up, but then I got sold on the microPOG (wishing I still had that) and later fell in love with TC Electronic's Corona.

Another reason I think that guitar players might be more soured on digital is because of how many of them jumped on the multieffects bandwagon 5-10 years ago. A ton of the guitar players I played with had Boss or Line 6 all-in-one boxes that they had dropped hundreds on, and yet I thought they all sounded like poop for most things. Fast forward to now and they're not giving good digital design the respect it deserves.

On the other hand, during the multieffect craze among guitar players, you saw bass players getting stoked about Muff clones and cool new low end retaining chorus pedals, who now are willing to give digital it's fair shake. Funny now, considering the early digital paved the way, but also has likely lead to many sour grapes. Unfortunate but understandable. Give them some time, they'll come around.

I agree that digital pedals, software and amps have come a long way, but as decent as my Zoom MS60B is, it still has a bit of that digital feel and sound to it, whereas the SA OFD, Orbital and Manta don't sound or feel that way at all to me, (and i'm an old school analog/tube amp guy).
and IMO, the SA dimension reverb is way better than my TC hall of fame and, IMO, TC has always made some pretty nice sounding pedals.

I have pretty much all of the pedals as well & feel exactly the same!

As much as I really embraced my TC reverb, it doesn't sound quite as good as the SA. The only thing the TC had going for it was a way to use thier software to add a reverb 'damper' that killed the reverb as you played hard & would blend in as your level dropped. It was handy for riff-type playing. I'll miss that feature but the SA just sounds more real.

That's why I just grabbed the orbital at the same time. I figured I'd be jonesin real hard for one in a couple weeks time anyway...but then the 8th street valentines 14% off deal would be no more. I'll try to get some mediocre recordings (no real rec equipment) up of the OFD copping my WHSP and the GV2.

you probably should mount your guitar based pedals in 1590B enclosures so they won't 'think' with their eyes. ;)

Tell em it does in fact sound digital, because it is digital.
But it won't sound vintage digital.
It'll sound modern digital.

That should twist their minds a bit.

Multiwave Distortion vs OFD

So, if I want a pedal to create whatever distortion I feel like, then go Multi.
And if I want to emulate distortions I've heard before, then go OFD.

But can I not do both, with both?

Just trying to wrap my head around the differences, cus I want to try one, but just one at a time for now.

The Multiwave is more synthy and is SA's modern distortion pedal. The OFD is a more traditional dirt box. I had a Multiwave and as much as I liked it I didn't keep it because it sounded to synthy. The OFD is amazing. I don't think these pedals overlap. Totally different beasts. I may at some point get a Multiwave but the OFD is covering all of my dirt needs perfectly.

My only caution is SA fever. I have an OFD, an Orbital, a Manta, a Dimension, a HH3 and a Hub. The SB2 pedals are all amazing and don't sound "digital" at all!!!
