Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

SB2-related question though---will the iOS/Android apps be able to work directly with the SB2 pedals via this method (TRRS/headphone jack)? Or perhaps via the Hub with this method (TRRS/headphone jack)? Or with the Hub via USB with an OTG cable in USB host mode?
 
So those videos are just going to keep getting longer and longer?

Indeed, they will. We figured that some people who hear about the later videos might not be able to find some of the earlier ones (especially when the videos are embedded in forum posts), so compiling all of the previous updates into the end of each video will solve that problem.

So, in the end, just before NAMM, we'll post a final video containing sneak peeks of all 12 products!
 
So our music director last night said he wanted to try something different for a few songs. Then he said the magic word 'synth' and I immediately warmed up my 'experimental' patches that I rarely get to use at church. Thankful I actually got these sounds on standby! You never know.

It's pretty neat sounding, I am bringing my gopro this weekend and hoping to have something good enough to be able to share. Lots of source audio scenes going on.....
 
The mobile app only works with the One Series. We tried many different things and could not get things to work via the headphone jack and SB2. If you think about it, getting a comm link over the headphone jack is theoretically easy, but a challenge to actually get working. On the One Series the mobile access to the pedal is via the "input 2" jack and a 1/4 inch TRS plug. So, you need 1/8 inch TRS to 1/4 TRS.

Okay, I didn't read that detail. Any reason for TRS and not TRRS? I thought cell phones would be capable of TRRS signals because that's what's used for headsets w/ microphones? Just curious---if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
 
Yes, phone is trrs, but the 1/4 inch jack on the One Series is not. My original dream was trrs through the multifunction port. This was too hard given that we had to deal with audio only in and out of the phone. It remains simple, clever, and a better solution overall than one of our competitors. Their's was certainly clever too. Got to give them that.

The phone app will work with One Series only, with a simple trs cable to go from the headphone jack to the input 2 on the pedal. Keep in mind that SB2 has lots of top level parameter controls which One Series does not, so it is less vital. Phone app with sb2 was my dream, but it is not technically possible.

Oh, I forgot something. We could create a really small box/dongle that could allow the phone to talk to SB2. If the app is popular we might do that.
 
I think a mobile app that would talk to the Hub might be more useful. It could connect to the Hub in USB Host Mode with an OTG cable.
 
I see... well what we already have is pretty damn amazing in itself. And I guess at the moment we don't really need such detailed functionality - could always just send MIDI from the phone app to the hub, then once the scene is loaded, do some tweaks on the pedals themselves and then save it back to the hub under that MIDI PC number with the save scene button on the hub.

I do bi-directional communication from my phone to multiple different devices via USB through a variety of adapters. If it talks to my computer via USB, chances are it can talk to my phone via USB.

I understand if the app/firmware development is prohibitive. But I don't understand what new hardware is needed. Except, perhaps, if said firmware is hardware-limited (e.g., memory in the Hub can only hold the firmware to talk to a computer and not iOS/Android).

New hardware would be nice it it was something you plugged in a TRRS or in the usb port and it added bluetooth communication like the H9...
 
So, @rsmith601 , here is a scenario I have been thinking about:

1- I go out and buy this new SourceAudio product that is similar to a Neunaber Slate pedal. Let's call it an SA Blank. Actually, I buy 4 or 5 of them.
2- The SA Blank costs about 2-3 times the price of an SB2 pedal. I know it's expensive, but it will be worth it.
3- The SA Blank has a lot more memory on board than a standard SB2, possibly more power, and definitely a slightly different interface, basically, it looks like the SB2 but with maybe 1-2 more knobs and an LCD screen
4- The cool thing about the SA Blank is that each one comes with all the SB2 algorithms (that and the additional hardware is why it costs more, maybe it comes with a few algorithms and you have to buy more).
5- So, I put these SA Blanks at these 4-5 spots on my board(s).
6- The COOL thing about the SA Blanks is that, using the hub, I can create scenes where each "Blank" can have whatever I could have on any of the SB2s. The even COOLER thing is that now, because any Blank can have any SB2 algo, I can basically rearrange the order of my favourite OFD, Manta, Orbital, Dimension, Delay, Multiwave settings.
7- The SA Blanks basically let me rearrange my pedalboard however I want with my trusty Solemate Controller and the Hub.

So, does that sound like fun or mildly interesting?

(P.S.: This is not an original thought, it's just a Source Audio equivalent of an H9 Max, maybe easier to use and cheaper.)

Note however you cannot hook up a USB cable to 2 computers and transfer data between them. There's a protocol set that prevents that, but with a USB Host/USB On The Go cable, you can bridge that gap and use your phone as the host (Think of your phone as the Computer now, you can connect thumb drives and accessories to your phone and it can interact/control them).
