I will soon have a Porkloin (one of my favorite OD’s!) back on my board, so that flavor will be covered. Hopefully I can get JohnK to put his special touch on it!
I’ll check out those two presets when I get home tonight. A Fuzz would be cool to add to the arsenal.

Fuzz and Distortion is very nicely covered on the C4 and the Mixer section makes it very functional for bass. Source Audio has some very unique creations that are interesting on bass and guitar that are not normally used outside of the realm of pure electronic music and that gives the C4 and SA pedals an upper hand in my opinion.

I think there’s some interesting territory in the distortion/fuzz + filter (without envelope) to be covered, especially some of the more esoteric bandpass or 6 pole or whatever.

But again if you’re looking to replicate and refine some very specific niche fuzz/distortion/OD it probably isn’t the best option.

I’m looking for something unique. The Pork Loin will cover standard tube OD, but I’m excited by the possibilities of the C4!

Another great way to control C4 and other SA pedals is $3 rechargeable bluetooth adapter plugged into the pedals and a tablet or phone. When my band plays I can adjust my monitor mix with my old iPad2 connected via wifi to our mixer. Now I'm going to use bluetooth to change presets on C4 too. No other hardware needed and the 1/4 to 1/8 cable comes with the SA pedals. No midi etc.

Can I get a tutorial on this? I just bought a cheapie bluetooth adapter, but no go. Can't get a connection between iPhone and C4 on the Neuro App. Question: "Invert Audio Output Phase" should be checked, correct?

Very cool. At the very least I'd hire someone in to do FOH sound who knows our material.

I often just bring the boom and host guest engineeers. Some sound guys hate that. Seems to me that I get a chance to learn something new and maybe just sit back and enjoy a good show. So if you vary and engineer, by all means.

All this fuzz talk got me worked up for some funky fuzz on a Saturday morning! I made 2 presets and published them this morning- you (and everyone here hopefully) should check them out! Should be up top for the next few days in the cloud part of the Neuro app/desktop.

Q-Tron+ Big Muff Fuzz:

Back in the early 2000’s I was in a college jam band (did a ton of Phish covers along with others. But a lot of phish) and that’s when I bought my Q-Tron+ with FX loop and NYC Big Muff. We were doing Free>HaHaHa>Free and the Qtron with the Muff in the FX loop was awesome sounding. This one is a gated fuzz and a 4 Pole instead of a 2 pole. It’s really close in sound but actually has better definition to my Qtron/Muff combo. The muff always caused a lot of the mid range to get super muddy. I built it off my Qtron Fuzz preset that I uploaded first weekend we got the beta units.
Understand the pedal a bit more now! I like filters and dirt the most so I’ve tended to make my own like a Spectrum and download community presets for Synths. That’s why I liked the beta units- colored like the Spectrum and Manta but with all the bells and whistles of the silver C4’s!

Qtron Foldover (Sitar Peak):

Have a super synth foldover w/single Peak 7.5 on my manta I really like. On this one I used a Peak>Notch>Peak for the filter and Foldover for the distortion. It acts kind of like a fuzz/funk filter till you really peak the threshold then the Foldover comes out. Sounds kind of Sitar-ish when you dig in for accents and the follower releases! Very vowel-y.

So caveat: I’ve noticed that filters act differently between my Lakland 55-02 w/9v active and my Sire Marcus M7 w/18v and an awesome midrange knob. The sire is what I made these with and it’s a P/J pickup config. The Lakland is a Jazz/MM configuration. If your bass doesn’t pop open the filter try turning the input gain up (or down if the dynamics go to 100% despite playing softly).

@rsmith601 the Spectrum side of the cloud presets are kinda sparse. I remember reading about letting you guys know the presets so you could convert them over to Spectrum presets; should I email the support@ email or somebody more specific with the links/list?

I’ve got 4 or 5 filter/dirt (or octave) only presets that I believe would be compatible with the Spectrum. As I alluded to in the previous post most of my real world usage of the C4 os a replacement for my Qtron+ and Manta. I originally couldn’t quite get my Manta’s sound dialed in but I’m way more studied in filter types and depth/frequency/Q now after 2 months with the editor. I already burned @nnavarro ’s Spectrum phaser and Fwonkaholic presets and those are top notch.

It’s probably too complicated to add cross pedal publishing (and the compatibility check) to the Neuro desktop. I think it was discussed somewhere back 300-400 pages.

The spectrum list is only at 20 presets and I want to help it hit critical mass like the C4!

I had mine working fine and couple days later it was acting up. I noticed later my bluetooth adapter has a volume control so I'm thinking that may be part of problem. I'll let you know what I find but in mealtime try plugging earbuds into the adapter to make sure you're getting that noise when the Neuro app sends a change.

We are doing a tutorial. We find that really cheap units don't always work. The better ones work really well.

I wonder if there's plans to add more wave shapes on the oscillators ? Like triangle, pwm square, pink noise... wavetable who knows ?

C4 midi control question...

Ok, I just got myself a C4 yesterday and I really like it. I’m getting more into bass synth sounds and this opens a lot of possibilities that are way more adjustable/controllable than the synth sounds I can get out of my HX Stomp. And it only takes up one spot out of my six!

Here is the question:
I use a Morningstar MC6 for added midi control for my HX Stomp, and I’m ideally going to try to use it to select presets on the C4 as well. From what I’ve read in this thread (and another one here on TalkBass) it seems that midi PC or CC signals from the Morningstar won’t work to do this.

This is where the DMC.micro, the unreleased micro.ghost, and the update to Neuro Hub come into play. Is the separate midi host “translating” the incoming midi PC message to one that the C4 will understand as a preset selection?

If you just want to go up and down through C4 internal presets and you already have a MIDI controller you know and like, then the micro.ghost will allow you to send a PC message to the C4 and call up that preset. If you want to do more fancy things, you might want to consider the Hub.

I do believe the micro ghost will allow for CC message as well, I’m waiting on mine yet, so I haven’t fully tested, but according to Matt and Disaster area, you set the C4 to channel 1, then set the dip switches on ghost to whatever channel you actually want to use, the ghost takes care of the rest.

I recommend a few things if you're ready to explore, @DrMole.

YouTube videos will give you an idea of how each pedal sounds. There are extensive videos comparing the Ventris reverb and Nemesis delay to other reverb and delay units on the market, for example.

Download the Neuro desktop program from source audio.
You can see every pedal's individual editor. You can look at the editors for every pedal even if you don't own the pedals. (nice touch @rsmith601)
Skim through and we can answer any questions you may have about all of the control you would have access to.
For example I personally wasn't sold on the Aftershock pedal until I saw the editor in a video and realized that I could program two parallel channels per preset.

You gracious and helpful enablers are succeeding where other clubs have failed- or at least not completely succeeded in helping to burn all available liquid cash

I have bookmarked and carted a Nemesis and a Spectrum filter pedal, ( to go along with the Orbital modulator already in service) along with a powered 8 space pedal board, a dozen Hosa cables. I Should probably just double the size of the pedal board.

Going to try to sit on it all for a month-you know, prove I have control.

Or I could admit zero power and click " Buy Now."

The pedal board REALLY is a necessity- surely the other adult in the house can see that immediacy?

I would spend less and cause less domestic stress if I had a serious substance issue

Micro-gHost will pass both CC and PC. The Hub of course won't pass PC currently. And unfortunately the DMC's are all set up for PC so until the Hub can do PC you can't use a DMC controller with the Hub, you'd have to run USB MIDI to the C4 for PC.

Hey guys, has anyone else experienced this with the neuro desktop editor? I’ll go to open it, and it won’t let me sometimes. It says another version is running somewhere else....so I’ll have to restart my computer in order to open the editor. Not a huge deal, just a little annoying at times. Wondering if I’m doing something wrong or if I can fix this.

I’ve also got some weird things happening with my HX and other SA stuff. Like when I go switch to a different preset/bank or whatever, it’ll switch my aftershock on. It’s really weird. At some point I switched something on or changed something that made this happen. I just don’t know what. I’m thinking I’m just gonna factory reset my hub, AS and C4 and start over. I feel like I won’t be able to figure out what I’ve done haha

If you go to the process monitor you can end the operation of Neuro, then restart. This happens sometimes depending on how I shut down the program. It is a known issue.
