Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Hey floks,

I have a C4 and I think it is a bit noisy when dry signal is passing through it, using Dry/Wet knob or any of the four voices.

My bass output is a bit weak, but thanks to it, it is very responsive to my fingers' dynamic.

I love using the filters and monophonic octave down with my dry signal, but I am worried about carrying it to a professional studio or big PA and the sound guy have to ask me to avoid this pedal off of the signal chain.

What is your experience?

Is it plugged into your Computer's USB interface? Mine is noisy as hell when attached to my PC for editing. It then becomes a clean as an angel as soon as I disconnect it.

Yes, it is noisier when attached to my desktop PC... but it adds some noise when it is not attached.
Would you tell me your settings? It is noisier as I increase the volume... I definitively cannot use it as a booster.

I've also used the C4 clean (just using it to route the from the 2 inputs to the 2 outputs in different ways) and didn't experience any extra noise. Are you using good isolated power? These digital pedals can cause noisy power if they aren't isolated.

Most studios will record a dry signal, then add effects later. I would also assume that the noise might be coming from your bass and when you bring up the level, it’s amplifying the noise as well as your bass signal

I can boost my bass signal a lot with my Hx Effects with no extra white noise.

Original power supply, I have tried with my Neuro Hub's original power supply too.

If the noise is definitely coming from the C4, you might need to contact Source Audio. Since it's a digital pedal there are very limited ways for it to become noisy. Once that signal is digital, it's pretty much impervious to interference. That doesn't mean there isn't some issue with the digital/analog convertors or another analog part.

Have you tried plugging into different outlets? It might be coming through the electricity
Even different towns.

I have contacted Source Audio and they recommend me to use a Noise Gate :rollno:

I don’t create any scenes in my hub. I just use the MC6 to pull everything up
Hi Hendricks97, yes that approach is fine for the newer Source Audio One Series pedals. However, it doesn't work for old One Series units that have only 6 internal presets. This includes the Aftershock (inc all of the early Dirt pedals), Lunar (inc all of the current Modulation pedals), Vertigo and True Spring Reverb units. These older units do not have provision to select the 6 internal patches via Midi CC. They do however, allow for engine change via midi CC. Which is nearly a pre-set change as long as you are happy with keeping all the other parameters the same.
Newer pedals like the Collider, Nemesis, Ventris, EQ2, C4, Spectrum and Ultrawave, all have 128 internal presets which can be accessed via Midi CC and in some cases via Midi PC.

I've mapped "Engine Change" to CC 6 and set one of my Faderfox dials to the same Midi Channel and CC number. It didn't really work for some reason. Sometimes it selected a value, other times it didn't. It seemed a bit random, so I think it's fair to say that the "Engine Change" mapped to a CC value on a rotary device doesn't work well. I think it works fine if you send it a specific CC value (ie 1/2/3/4 etc) from a button press from a Midi Controller. It's far easier to select the 3 way switch or use a Neuro hub!

Probably to do with the scaling. If there are only 12 engines then only the values of 0-11 are used; the rest of the knob travel is wasted space. I have these things mapped to button presses on the MC8

Yes I think you are right.
I get more reliable results using a Expression over Midi CC to change an early One Series device "Engine Models" than I do with a Faderfox PC4 CC assigned encoder. I suspect the 7bit out put from the PC4 isn't scaling well enough for the SA pedal. I hear that the EC-4 can do 14bit encoder output, but I've read that there are some challenges around that too.
Personally speaking, I'm happy to have explored the boundaries of my current Midi gear/set up. It was more of a curiosity exercise than a "must have". I get all of the patches I need from my Boss ES-5 and the 128 scenes on my Neuro Hub. I really like the expanded knob control that I get from my FaderFox PC-4. It's so call to have 24 knobs that I can assign to control any parameter on any pedal. I have one page configured for just my EQ2. I can control my EQ band levels and frequencies very easily. I have another page configured from my EHX Hog2 sliders. Although I have to admit my most used three controls for my SA pedals are input volume, output volume and Expression. Those three seem to be the most useful on my SA gear. My H9's are mostly Hot knob (usually expression), X & Y parameter controls. However, I could easily populate a Faderfox 40+ knob encoder device!

Howdy Sorcerers,

I have finally committed and have a Neuro Hub on the way to go with my Aftershock, C4, Bass Ultrawave and Spectrum and have a question.
At home I use my board connected either to my PC or laptop for real time Neuro adjustments, one reason for the Neuro Hub is the additional memory and scenes. I may also use a simple foot controller if I begin to gig (sadly less and less likely) so I'm not as concerned about that.

? All my SA pedals are currently hooked up to a USB hub then to my computer should I disconnect the USB and use the Neuro Hub exclusively or use both? Advantages, disadvantages. Helpful hints for the old fart.

I recommend keeping everything plugged into USB. When you just use the Neuro Hub you have no ability to save just a single pedals settings and move it to another preset. So the best plan is to manage individual pedal presets that you want to reuse with the direct connection, then use the Neuro Hub to create your actual scenes.

Loving this setup! My Neuro Hub is underneath the board. Need to go back and tighten the wiring now, but everything works well.

Thank you @Derek Williams and to those that confirmed the answer, now to install and conquer the beast.

Now where di I put my MIDI primer
