Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

That would absolutely help some people new to SA from getting fed up before finding the sweet spots.

One of the things I'm learning about pedals is the huge impact to tone a subtle nudge of a knob can do. I made a slight adjustment to my Darkglass VMT Deluxe this week and found a new awesome tone! With a pedal from the Soundblox 2 family, increase the complexity by around 100. I had a bad habit of cranking knobs and finding that all the sounds were similar (saturation). SA says the default settings of the pedals are what they think sound great, but a user forum with settings and brief sound clips would be huge!

So I was working on making a patch with some droning using my Reverb, and looks like the trail bypass has an issue and doesn't revert back to normal signal. Not sure how to get around this, if it's normal or what

Edit: This occurs with any reverb type on the wheel. Appears the further past noon you go on the Mix, the more your output is reduced when you turn it off. That would explain my strange volume discrepancies in my presets!

Guys, I'm at wit's end, and I hope someone can help. I'm using the HH3 with the Manta, and for the last several gigs, everything will be fine when I set up and soundcheck my rig. During the gig, however, the HH3 will fail to control the envelope - even though the receiver shows them being linked. I can't have gear that I can't rely on, and I'm starting to think about other options - which aren't as cool, or as easy to use. Help! Can something be interfering with the HH3 signal? (no other Source Audio gear is on our stage)

Does the receiver show an absolutely solid light or is there any flickering? I get similar problems sometimes, if the light is flickering but not blinking slowly.

Something I couldn't quite see if and how it works from the manuals; does the SA pedals recognize tempo setting over MIDI? (I wonder if adding a tap tempo footswitch to the Disaster Area MIDI foot switch is useful).

I'm pretty sure they're supposed to.

OK, sounds promising, I'll give it a try once the footswitch is here.

Yeah, don't just take my word for it, but I'm pretty sure the Hub is supposed to pass along tempo that comes from MIDI clock. I'm not sure if the pedal/that preset has to be in tap tempo mode. But it's a big reason I'm looking into getting a Hub. Might want to check the manual.

I saw a vid of someone tweaking the SA pedals with his iPad, I cant find it again to ask him directly ... But is there an app ??? Cause if there is I couldn't find it ....

The Hub will transmit MIDI, and there are CC codes corresponding to most of the parameters on the SB2 pedals, so I'm going to assume it was actually a 3rd Party MIDI app being run through the Hub as opposed to a SA app.

That could maybe be my experiment you saw here

I used an app called MidiDesigner and created the SA template / configuration myself.

I may make these available at some time, but it's a work in progress so far. I'd like to add the OFD once I have that, and some way of handling presets.

Ok , that's what I saw ....

Sounds like something I wouldn't know how to do heheheheheheheheh
I'll wait until there's an app or something to us common people ;)

Sorry if I missed something, but at the moment can the hub change sb2 pedal presets? My understanding is that what it does now is that it changes all the individual settings to some presaved scene but does not change the saved preset, so
A) if you send a scene from the hub, the settings change, but if you press the footswitch on the pedal, it'll go back to the saved preset?
B) so I'd have problems if I want the scene to include two presets on the multiwave? I want to be able to send a midi signal to the hub that changes both presets on the multiwave, so I can morph between them with an expression pedal.

I thought these two posts addressed this issue but now I'm not sure:

This is the comment from Jesse:
"The thought was, we put an option in the Hub Manager so that it sends an extra command for the SB2 pedal to take the scene info and write it to the individual pedal memory as well.
It would only be one preset at a time for now, not both. Both would take a little more work.

It definitely wasn’t overlooked. Just had to make a decision about which way I was going to do it.
But making it an option in the Hub Manager is a reasonable way to do it. Basically, I can just establish a global option that gets set in the Hub Hardware settings. Something like “save scene data to pedal preset memory”"

Does this mean that in a future update, you can set it so sending the scene saves the presets?
Hi JoelFT

You can place the 6 presets from the BEF Pro in whichever Program Change you'd like.

Here are the steps to do this:
1 - Have your BEF Pro connected to either the Hub or the Midi Mouse via MIDI.
2 - On the BEF Pro press the footswitch of the preset you want to program.
3 - So that you can save it you must move a parameter, you can move a frequency on the EQ for example and set it back.. just so you can save the preset.
4 - Press and hold the Footswitch to save the Preset
5 - As the LED on the BEF pro is blinking when it's saving, press the Active/search footswitch on the Midi Mouse (This sets the BEF Pro to respond when that Program Change value is sent to it)
6 - Now your BEF preset will come up when you send it that Program Change value.
7 - Rock it

Unlike the SoundBlox 2s or the Programmable EQ, you can only have a preset set to 1 Program Change but it still lets you program 6 Presets in any PC# you'd like.

Let me know if you have any questions

Just to confirm, this means that either way, I can only use midi to recall one preset on a multiwave pro, and cannot use it to recall two presets for morphing?

Hi ferdinandstrat,

Unfortunately, like many other things in the music tech industry, there is no real accepted "standard" among gear makers for expression pedal configurations. At Source Audio, we decided to go with what we thought was the most common configuration. In this setup, the expression pedal accepts a TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) cable. The cable's tip contact is connected to the wiper of the potentiometer, and the two terminals of the potentiometer are connected to the cable's ring and sleeve contacts.

To make it a little more clear, here's a simple diagram showing the 3 most common configurations. The first two configurations utilize TRS (stereo) cables - the only difference between them is that the tip and ring contacts are reversed. The last configuration in this diagram (used by Line 6 and Eventide, and perhaps some other manufacturers), uses a TS (mono) cable.

Saw this post while trying to find more info on the above issue, adamixoye this might be useful for your question on the expression pedal thing.

...

The Hub does not at this point change the presets in the pedals, step on a switch and the pedal will revert to the preset and what the Hub downloaded will be lost. This a major thing for me, I want to use the pedal's footswitches to turn effects on and off during a song, use the pedals as regular stomp boxes as it were, but this can't be done now. Setting up double patches and stepping up and down via MIDI for this is an option, but I don't really want to do it that way.

I've begged and nagged SA about this a couple of times :), this feature is holding me back from using the SA pedals live. I hope this will be implemented soon and included in a coming version of the Hub software. (There, I did it again).

This is one of the times I really really wish I was wrong ;^;

I hope the first post I quoted really does mean that this is in the works. But I guess it looks like for now I'll still need to stick with the Multiwave Pro for multiple morphable pairs of presets.

Alternatively, does anyone know whether the hub can be used to change which bank the multiwave sb2 is on? For example, can I send a midi PC to the hub, which then instructs the multiwave sb2 to change to, say, bank 2; and then subsequently I can use an expression pedal to morph between the two settings in bank 2? I guess that would be good enough for now.

I wasn't going to be getting a hub this soon, but my guitarist is helping me set up some Arduino-based midi footswitch to control both my SA pedals and my zoom multistomp, so I'm suddenly in a rush to educate myself on what exactly the hub can and cannot do (and order one from the local distributor)!

This might not be the issue at all but, just in case. How do you power the pedal and hh3? Does the power draw of other pedals go up in between soundcheck and playing? The SB2 pedals' power requirements go up as you start using the HH3. Also, does the pedal have the latest firmware?

Saw this post while trying to find more info on the above issue, adamixoye this might be useful for your question on the expression pedal thing.

That makes total sense when it comes to understanding how the EB VP Jr. can be used as an expression pedal either with just a single TS or TRS cable, or you can use the Y-insert method. It would appear that if I connect the "tip" end of the Y-cable to the "out" jack and the "ring" end to the "in" jack, I'll get a "hot tip" expression pedal; if I flip them, it will be a "wiper tip" or "hot ring."

Now to figure out the resistance issue...

I poked around and didn't find it in here.

Is there a link to information regarding the feature set of the upcoming Reflex expression pedal? Specifically I'm interested in the LFO, what waveforms, what sort of tempo syncing options it will have for the LFO, and what if any subdivision options it will have.

I'm pretty sure I will be buying this the day of release and just want to chew on some more ideas on usage. I have owned a Moog MP-201 and I'm hoping to get similar functionality here, am I dreaming?
