Southampton Pedals show some love thread!!

Here's a view of my PT Nano, with a 3Leaf Proton and Octabvre Mini on either side, complete with pancake cables (albeit less delicious than those above). The slight slant to the 5th Gear is thanks to those damn Cioks mounting screws. Click to embiggen:

We're actually redesigning the pedal from the ground up as we speak. New version will have a second footswitch. One for Just OD and the other for reverb/delay. We are also switching to a different platform to provide the delay/reverb.

All this is being done for a couple reasons.
1 - better sound
2 - easier to build
3 - versatility

Hey Noylin!

For example, I would use one knob of the ATE as a master volume (one of my basses has less volume than is optimal for my dirt pedals), the other knob I would use as a boost (simply more volume). I would love to be able to choose whether the second knob, the boost, is clean or dirty without effecting the first knob. Does that make more sense?

This is something we thought about A LOT. In the end we decided on keep it a bit simpler because a) it keeps the price down,and b) the ATE is really meant to be very first in the chain. That's a good location for an always on drive, but not necessarily your main OD. Hope this doesn't turn anyone off the pedal.

I use the ATE later in the chain right now, mostly because it can also work great as a multi-board buffer and booster. I do want to start using it on a new board I am planning. It would become the very first pedal in the chain and become the interface for a tabletop style board where multiple inputs come in. I need to build a small board for it and put it on some sort of stand.

They work, but, really, even with the taller enclosure, I feel like pancake-cake jacks will be a tighter fit:

Arrived today. And I had the day off. Sweet!



So ok…I put about 15 minutes into it so far, and this lemon yellow box is everything you've heard it is, and then some. Ranges from subtle to smooth & sweet. A pedal for those who like to introduce just the right touch of girth into their sound. If you play a PB or JB, this pedal is a "must have" bit of kit IMO. It gets you that je ne sais quoi you only find in certain very special PBs.

My Strat wielding GF agrees with you.

I suggested she try mine out this morning and see what she thought since she's in the process of setting up a new pedalboard for herself.

After playing with it awhile she got a big smile on her face and told me she liked it. As in really liked it. As in really really really liked it.

I asked if I should order another one.

She said: Yes. Definitely.

The one I just got is now sitting on the shelf that holds her collection of pedals...

Guess that means I'm going to need to buy another one shortly since "my" Fifth Gear has been claimed by my SO.

Oh well…at least you never hear arguments over gear purchases in our house.

Hello. Soon to be Ictineo owner here. I think that's a very good idea.

Chase Bliss pedals have exactly that, enabling storage and recall of two presets. It's the mini toggle between the footswitches. Though after a first try I returned the Tonal Recall I bought, what I liked best about that pedal was the presets feature: easy to use and powerful.

Here is a mockup of how the Fifth Gear might look with its presets "shifter", just about where it would be in the old Mustang:

For far less than that, you could put two of the original circuit in one slightly bigger box, and add controls for each plus a footswitch to toggle between them.

Sounds like you're describing the Ten Speed. It's in the works, but a ways off due to other things we're trying to release.

EDIT: actually not quite - the Ten Speed will be two fifth gear circuits with individual footswitches. This pedal stacks incredibly well with itself.

Dude, just buy 2 5th gears. They are not that expensive and they stack well.
