Couple electronics questions for my NS20005:

2. How do you guys tie down the extra battery when you mod a bass to 18v? The bass sounds decent at 18 so I'm not gonna restore it to 9v, but there is only one battery clip and the other battery knocks around...duct tape?

You can get some foam and and place it in the cavity like this.

Go to a craft store and buy another piece of velcro for the second battery, then put a little dab of glue on the velcro to secure it to the cavity.

I know most of the people in here swear by Ampeg but after hearing the bass tone that John Montagna had on his My Spector Story, I have been really looking at Hartke equipment.

Looking through the used section of Guitar Center, one of the stores not too far from me got this amp and cabinet in and had them for an amazing price. I drove up and looked at them today and instantly fell in love with the sound and the clarity of this combo. They were basically brand new and still have all the stickers on them that come from when you buy them and the price just could not be beat. I have to say, it's a bit too powerful for my house but hey, there is no such thing right?

Get some expanding foam sealer from home depot. Spray some in the cavity, quickly screw down the lid. Should do the trick.

Here is my bass. It is a 1980 NS-1 serial #370. This is a really old picture. I have owned this bass on and off for close to 28 years, I think. I bought it used at Thoroughbred music. It has been sold and bought back twice and stolen once.

I bought a Hartke LH500 a few months ago and I love it's tone!!!

Thanks. And who is this Vic fellow you speak of? I keep forgetting he uses Hartke actually which is odd, i know.

I bought a Hartke LH500 a few months ago and I love it's tone!!!

Well I don't mean that the B string sounds muddy, just usually in my experience the B is a bit muddier sounding than higher strings, and the scale length helps, but not as much as I expected. The EMG pickups help the overall tone to be more..."articulated" than I am used to honestly. The B doesnt quite have the same mid bump I'm used to getting from my NS20004.

I'm playing a half-step down from standard however so that might be hurting it as well.

I noticed a bit of 'b string mud' even on my previous Rebop 5. And my band plays everything a half step down. I actually went with a thinner gauge and it cleared it up. lol

I have to say, I really love the tone of this thing. I bought it used but you can tell the person never even turned it on since the thing is so clean. The deal was too good to be true to pass up so i jumped on it.

I wanted to bring one of my Spector's to try through it when i was at the store but I have to make a few stops before going there so I didn't want to have it just sitting in my car. I wanted to try a 5 string though since that is all i play so it was a good opportunity to try out a Stingray Classic 5 string

Great setup John!!!....Those are the best head+cab hartke makes in my opinion...I'm not a Hartke guy but if had I had to get one it would be defiantly be the LE series head and Hydrive cab.

I have to say, I really love the tone of this thing. I bought it used but you can tell the person never even turned it on since the thing is so clean. The deal was too good to be true to pass up so i jumped on it.

I wanted to bring one of my Spector's to try through it when i was at the store but I have to make a few stops before going there so I didn't want to have it just sitting in my car. I wanted to try a 5 string though since that is all i play so it was a good opportunity to try out a Stingray Classic 5 string

You couldn't go wrong with it. It looks brand new and like I said that new Hartke LE head is much better than any of their older ones....ROCK on John!!!
