it is actually refinished with a 1963 VW Jade paint. The black and chrome bridge is custom, Solid brass black oxide bridge with chrome saddles.

Our very own Bassie had this bass refinished and I really like his choice...

Yeah i'm reposting due to no answers on the last page...

With all the Ampeg fans in here I was wondering if I might get some advice.
I really love the tone of a big sealed 8x10, but I could never gig something that big (lots of stairs!) so i was wondering what Ampeg 4x10 comes closest to the big sealed 8x10 sound.

Maybe the B-410HE or SVT-410HE? Most of the others I see have ports. Option of turning off the horn is a big plus for me as well.

I have heard the 410s are tuned the same as their 8x10 big brothers. I'm not sure on the horn option but I would assume you could switch it off.

Fliptops offers a awesome sealed 410 . If you can't find Wat you are looking for locally , me or any other ampeg user can get you some basic plans and get a local cabinet shop to build the cab , local body shop to rhino line or upholstery shop to tolex . Not saying it will be cheap .

Get yourself a PR-410HLF That thing is a MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably the next best thing next to the 810.

Well the HLF is ported so I don't think it would sound as much like a sealed 8x10 as a cabinet without the ports, it says it has frequency down to 33hz, whereas I thought the sealed 8x10's were rounded off closer to 50-60ish

Sounds like the HE is the closest thing to what I'm looking for, anyone know any major differences between the B-410HE and the SVT-410HE other than the wattage?

its all preference, but in my experience if there is a mic set up to pick up the "room noise" then I wear both ears in. If I'm singing, I always only use one ear. If you create your own mix (aviom system) then you are set, I love those. If you get your own mix and the sound guy is good, you will be good, just make sure to get a good seal on your ear or you will lose all bass response.

the Shure 215s have good clear bass tone, especially for a single driver.

Yes, thanks! They got here today, and I tested them with my iPod. Wow! Clarity and bass - not boomy - but full - and my EQ setting is flat. It takes a little twisting to get the wires just right, but so far so good.

Very true. We always have onstage issues with the guitars being too loud. Our drummer uses Roland V Drums, so that helps.

Definitely gotta throw my vote in for the NS-5H2. The USA Spector bolt-ons are waaaayyyy under rated in my opinion. It will cost more than the others you listed but.........:bassist:

Well, I can tell you the Rebop 5 is quite awesome. The neck is thinner fronto-to-back then a Rebop 4 - and it has a different feel than a Euro or NS-2. I played an NS-4H2 at Bass Player Live, and I was definitely impressed. Now I have to justify that getting a 5er merits a USA (and the price tag) lol.

That seems to be the general consensus about the HLF.. its ported and can be boomy.

I want to throw out the suggestion to get an 800watt GK 410 mbe .. same NEO speakers as the GK NEO line and the tweeter is on/off. It is around 50lbs and that is the main reason I am suggesting, well that and I am a GK fan boy :hyper:

The SVT seems to have a higher SPL (sound pressure level) which I assume means it can handle more signal. The SVT has a 2" voice coil and the B has a 1" voice coil <<< I'm not sure what that actually means tho. The B also has an extended low end range.


It seems like the svt-410 is truer to the 810 sound.

Forget about what it says on paper. Plug your bass in and see if you like it or not.
For me, the 410 doesn't deliver as much "air" as the 810 (obviously) so to be, the 810 not only sounds good, it feels good.
Try some 410's out and see what sounds best for you.

He had some irregular heartbeats today so he went to the doctor and they saw something in his EKG so they recommended he get checked out to make sure.

Sam is a really great guy and goes out of his way to help everyone so lets send some good thoughts over to him so everything goes ok. When I get more information, I will definitely share it with everyone.
