Hey dudes - string talk (again) derail for just a second....

I've been a stainless guy for a long time but ended up putting some nickel slinkies on last night (from the Brooklyn Jaymi sold me). They seem pretty fresh and sounded really good in a different way from stainless (using Pro Steels right now).

I'm thinking about keeping them on my NS 2 just for a slight tone change. Question: Slinkies get ripped a lot in the "string" section for not lasting very long. I take a lot of that with a grain of salt but curious to hear others opinion. Jaymi says he gets about 6 months out of them, which is incredible. Any other thoughts on long lasting nickels...especially Slinkies?

I used stainless before I had my NS, and loved them; but honestly nickels have worked best for me now in any situation. I've been using D'Addario as my first choice (4,5, & 8) & from what I've heard (from a trusted source) they make Ernie Balls. So, I like em. Im gonna try Sadowsky's because Sam had a great sounding clip from his bass. I also grabbed a set of Cobalts for my JA-R, and the sound and feel amazing! I grabbed them based on the reviews I read regarding the low end the give off. I figured they'd be good because I felt the BT was a little bright. Gonna probably grab a set for one of my NS-2s & see how they sound.

Yes, I'd love to do a "My Spector Story", just like I'd love to share sound clips of my latest recordings (very proud of our latest song, first one with this band that I've written & arranged entirely on my own), but unfortunately my computer skills aren't as good as they could be, and I need to update my camera & recording gear before I can start sharing my endeavors here.

Sam had offered to send his camera to anyone if you pay shipping both ways. He also has offered to help with video editing. He edited mine (which I recorded with the camera on my phone)..... Just throwing that option out there... Sam I hope you don't mind.

You didn't like the Dunlop Steels, but I say try the Dunlop Nickels.

Pro Steels and Dunlop Steels are my favorite.

Sounds good! Track says: "Jesus Messiah" but it plays Mighty to Save. I really enjoy playing both of those songs.

Thanks for all the bumps guys, It helped me get rid of the NS-2JA-R rather quickly. I'm meeting the guy in Augusta (but certainly not in Rock Bottom music for fear of a lynching) on Saturday to hand it over. That and gift function payment just saved me a lot in shipping so more to go to the medical debt. Happy stuff.

But thank you for the bumps and keeping the thing up there on the first page for me. It did help a lot!

Guess I got the answer I was hoping to get. Hands off the pickups, flip out the old tonepump and drop in a Spector 9 volt preamp. Cool, sounds like an easy project, minor pot shaft hole increase and some basic soldering I assume. I suspect someone here has done this before on a Euro any words of wisdom or pre and post sound clips would be welcome.

the US 9v is completely solderless I believe.

Yeah I agree with Lee......the B1500 is a versatile amp. It has replaced legendary amps like the Mesa Titan and Aguilar Db750 in more than just my arsenal. To each his own....I still love my Carvin, and also like my Thunderfunk. Every amplifier has capabilities for those of us that like particular qualities. I've blown up 3 ampegs to date. I won't play them anymore. We all have had different experiences with some of the same amp companies. Play what you like.......I can't help it if I have good ears! Lol

What was the cab sizes, 410's?

I know this has come up before here, but I was wondering what USB or other type of interfaces people are using for recording. I was just gifted with a nice laptop for my senior year/college, and it doesn't have an 1/8th inch sound input like most other Macs I've seen. I've seen some M-audio stuff on musiciansfriend that looks pretty good, but I'd be open to suggestions.

I strung my Euro with Cobalts and I love them. And they are durable too.

i have the cobalts on my legend and ns-94. i love them, too. nice and punchy. i already did the boil on them. my hands are super sweaty when i play, but that's what a good boiling is for

Back in the last thread (or maybe the one prior), I shared my annoyance with the seller of the Spectorcore fretless that I picked up on ebay a few weeks ago. Anyways, the seller somewhat reluctantly agreed to take it back, and refund my money. He never did 'fess up to the damage near the input jack, and tried to blame is on the package place/shipper. Somehow, I highly doubt that /they/ dropped it, then used a Sharpie to conceal the damage :scowl: We'll see how long it takes him to cough up the coin. Never again with ebay. I'm sticking to the TB classifieds from now on.

I can say that Sadowsky Black label stainless and nickel (and flats for that matter) are the best strings I've ever used. When I can't afford them, I hit Carvin for their LaBellas because their prices are so affordable, you can get 6 sets of strings for well under $100. But when I can, I try to get Sadowsky Black Label stainless. Amazing strings.

So I managed to grab a barely used Forte 4 from Beaver at BC. I literally called out of nowhere and they just happened to have it, so my faux forte 4 will go to Jamie (brotherbassj) and the white JAR is going this Saturday to James up in SC, so the cost of the Forte 4 will eventually be completely covered. Very excited to finally have one. Two basses for one does seem odd, but it will be worth it to me as I really loved the tone of the Forte 5 but not the weight or the neck. This, my Euro LX5/ faux Forte 5 and whatever white Euro LX4 I decide to hold onto (the one from j.kernodle or the white Wimbish that's supposed to get here by the end of the month) and I will be set! My dream will still be a blue on black NS-4 like superdick's but, that will be some major moola and is probably a ways off in the future. But in the meantime I'll have 3 basses that cover all my needs and they all sound fantastic. Happy day my friends, happy day. And its going to get here tomorrow which means I get to audition with it this weekend!
