Now I have to take new family pictures with my NS-X because it looks like part 56 is right around the corner!

You could try a Rex 5 pro (I have one and its a great bass) or possibly a Coda if it has a Fender size body.

Yeah I don't dig the Rex. I just don't like any of the finishes. I don't know if I'd go in for a Coda. I've never played one.

There are a few people here who own some beautiful USA bolt on models- I think some of them have posted clips in the past. If not in this iteration of the thread than in a previous one. I'm sure one of said owners can chime in again with a link or two if you have trouble finding what you're looking for.

I have a USA NS-2J special edition bolt on but no way to post any sound clips at this time. As far as tone goes on this bass it might not be what the OP is looking for, the jazz/Aggie combo makes this bass buttery smooth if played gently and an aggressive growler if you dig in hard. It's exactly the sound I was after and works very good with the types of music I play. My Euro 4LX has a much brighter tone and may be closer to what he wants. It has the P/J tone pump layout.

I've never played a Coda but it does have a similar pickup and preamp layout to the USA NS-2J I have. It's a Fender Jazz on steroids.

Cool, an owner with both a OBP-2 & 3. Quick question, I typically leave the mid sweep on my OBP-3 in the center detent position with the mid knob pushed down and eq. with my rig if needed. Because I don't use the mid sweep much I was assuming on my next purchase I could get by with the OBP-2. Is that a fair assumption or are the two Aggies voiced drastically different? In other words, can you dial in the same general tone on both basses or does the Aggie 3 have some significant color it adds to the picture?

I had both and to my ears the obp3 has a different voice all together. I liked it better than the OBP 2.

Aw man.....am I the only one that prefers the 18 volt tone with the DCs now? Well at least I'm a class of my own.....lol

I like the GK stuff more and more as well. Another good option are the Ampeg Portaflexes. I have a PF500 head with a 1x15 cab here in my office for fooling around. The head is a good size and I brought it with me to a gig down in Orlando recently. It definitely travels well and had no difficulty powering the 4x10 cab they had on hand there.

I'm also taking quite a shine to the PocketGK app for the ipad/iphone. Paired up with an Apogee Jam, it works flawlessly for quiet practice.

I used the PF-500 with the Ampeg PR-410HLF and the SVT 810. Just for fun at home I hooked up both cabs plus a B-15T to the PF-500, wow! Sonic!!!

There is a Spector connection here, albeit somewhat obscure. This is my son's Alvarez acoustic bass guitar. It was designed by Joe veillette and Michael Tobias....

Very cool ABG. You can definitely see the Veillette design influences - the asymetrical shape of the body, bridge & soundhole, end of the fretboard, etc. It reminds me of the '50s Gibson "Moderne" series of guitars - the Flying V, Explorer and Moderne - where the majority of the increasing/decreasing radius curves were drawn using a "French curve". Love the nicely bookmatched top too.

This might seem like a super weird question but do any of you dudes who are taller and wider sometimes wish that your Spector was larger in size?

It's the only qualm I have with my bass, which is a Legend Custom. It's just a little bit too small in stature. I'm a shorter dude but I'm really stout, so whenever I see a gig photo of me with my bass it always looks a bit like a toy. Like if Bigfoot were to play a ukelele...

Funny as the first Spector to catch my attention actually looked large, as it was a red 5er of Ricky Phillips (Styx) that caught a lot of light. Of course, I don't know how tall he is.

Will advise as I'm six foot, 215

Looking for hard case recommendations for my Q5 (very similar to current Legend) that was a $400 resale investment. Fall back position is $165 bucks for the factory case... not going airborn...just gig travel and protection from the dog..... any better buys or is that one the stuff?

I dunno. My Legend just feels little. I'm sure if I played a 5 string this would solve my brain itch, which is why I've been looking at the Euro 5 so longingly. Funky as.

I bought a $45.00 used fits-all case from GC for my CRFM because it came sans case & I needed something quick, but like Donny, I like the Spector cases - perfect fit every time.
I also come from the era where cases were included, and while I understand why entry level basses come without them (students, budgets, etc.), I think all basses $1k & up should include a case in the price.

I'm not sure, but I believe Michael and Stuart are friends and Joe Veillette worked with Stuart in the early days. The bass is currently strung up with Dogal flats. Sounds beautiful. It definitely inspires a different musical direction and approach.

Ice - that's exactly the information I needed. Sounds like I'll go the OBP-3 route with my Euro LX then. I'm going to temporarily wire up my NS-2J Aggie in 18volt mode to see what she'll do. If I like it I may do that with the Euro as well. Thanks for the tips.

I had a obp1 and obp3 in my old Modulus and I went with the obp3 in the end. I never tried the 2 but I love the 3

I'm just looking for a good value. I want to get a good taste for what a Spector is. Im looking at probably spending $500-$800. I'm a Warwick and jazz bass guy. I got to briefly try out a used Spector 4 string fretless, bolt on with emg hz's and it blew me away. I couldn't afford it at the time, so I've decided to search for one until I find exactly what I want. I had been looking for another Warwick in this price range, either a new rockbass or maybe a used German standard of some sort. I really want to try a Spector though. I definitely dont mind to buy used. I rarely get to buy anything brand new anyway.

So rebops and euros are what to look for eh? I saw a zebop in the tb classifieds not too long ago that looked awesome. That was before I knew I wanted try a Spector

Don't overlook Guitar Centers used Spector page. I've gotten excellent buys with no lemons from them. Plus you have 30 days within to return without questions. I'm not affiliated with them in any way or form. Just a very satisfied customer. I just bought a NS-20005, gloss black with black hardware from them for under $500.00. Awesome value! The NS-20005 is Neckthru and under rated even more so than the NS-2A. Good hunting!

It depends a lot on who you buy from too. They sound ok, but most i have played i just cant deal with. Theres been a few geddys i liked but most just miss the mark. And im not talking about set up issues, i can live with that no prob. From crooked bridges, to wicked sloppy fretwork, sloppy neck pockets, crooked tuners, ski jump necks, lol the list goes on and on... lol. When you do get a good one though their pretty cool. Just my experiences. I wouldnt call something bad unless i had seen a lot of it. Theres always a sub par one once in a wile for any mfr that makes it out. Thats an uncontrolable variable.

How in the world do old Fenders 60's/70's sell for so freaking much, even beat up??? I couldn't believe my eyes last weekend in GC.

Replaced the worn bridge on my NS-2 - improved the looks 100%. The old bridge (along with the old worn solid brass bridge from my CRFM) are shipping out to Mr. Bassie tomorrow.

Dang it, you're right. I have more homework to do before I have all these model numbers figured out.

Browse thru Spectors history page(basses that are not made anymore). It'll give you a great grasp and understanding on the model thing and differences. Remember... There's always an exception to everything.
