but then you gotta listen to the bass line in sir psycho sexy on blood sugar sex magic and realize that it's quite ok to use one!
I prefer an actual wah pedal, but when set perfectly an envelope filter can make life easier for certain sounds. I always felt like I was fighting with mine to get a proper balance for sensitivity to my playing. Sir Psycho Sexy is a very good example, a bit more accessible to people than the P-funk

Thanks for all the nice comments! This amber Spector has the lowest possible string action i have ever seen, by the looks it just has to buzz, but it doesn't. Still learning the controls and right now unable to get an aggressive tone out of the bass. It sound very focused and tidy (good thing!) but i think the pickups may be too low. What's the consensus on pickup height here?
Also, the knobs don't seem to be standard, but maybe some of the more seasoned Spector folks can enlighten me on this.
The playability and level of craftsmanship is amazing, and i am not a user of cheap basses. This was a blind shot - but apparently BULLSEYE!

when you cant "feel" the bass enough on stage... lol
I never really used that function when I had a B1500 but it was fun to use when the stage had really good monitors and subs so you could make EVERYTHING shake
Dude. I realize you've already heard it like 20 times today, but it can't really get old, can it? You're bass is one of the most elegant builds I've seen out of the Czech shop. Tasty choices and masterful outcome. That truss cover is the icing on the cake... enjoy it!!!
Thank you..It doesn't get old at all. I am enjoying it immensely. As you can see from the time of my post that it is after 3am here in Calif. I've been playing through my headphones since 10pm. My fingers are sore and I'm super tired but I just could not put this baby down. Such a joy to play, see and hear.

It Is So Cool! This neck profile with the 1.5" nut feels so freakin comfortable.

Here is a random question. Why do all of the neck throughs use three pieces of maple instead of one big thick slab of maple? Are the three sandwiched together stronger or less prone to warping? I don't really understand the physics there.
Our family owns a 35 or so acre christmas tree farm and we took down a good size maple a few years ago when we were clearing some more acreage for trees. One of the boys reminded me this morning that we hid away in the barn a whole bunch of maple in various lengths and sizes. Totally forgot about that. I confess that really don't understand much about maple beyond that looks purty and sounds great.

that's exactly why most builders do multi piece necks. if you look at the headstock on a Spector you'll see the end grain usually runs something like this \\||// (I may have it wrong) but the opposing grain patterns give it stability to stay where the truss rod put it, and to resist twisting. the coda I think is the only one piece neck.
Thats cool! it sounds like he is using a overdrive with the envelope filter.
back in the day, I used a Mutron. It was the grandaddy envelope filter. Unfourunatly, It got destroyed.
If you are looking for aggressive tone, start by raising those pickups as high as you can without the strings vibrating against them, and then fine tune from there.
If more gain/aggression is still needed, check the trim pot on your TonePump & increase clockwise for more grindy gain goodness.
Lastly, you may need to increase your amplifier gain settings or employ some overdrive (Darkglass & Spector = aggression heaven) to get the exact sound you are looking for.
Your knobs appear to be aftermarket black metal knobs - genuine Spector Euro knobs can be purchased here...

Is this the NS-2A that you turned into lined fretless? What are some effects that you like to add to the fretless sound to help it sustain or not sound flat other than chorus?

Guys, my Spector Euro LX arrived.. and it is glorious!
Crappy phone pics, but you get the idea. The amber is a bit darker than it appears on the photo and the finish has an incredible depth to it. I can't wait to play it

Well my Spalted Wimbish showed up today (a day early) and I am at a loss for words about how awesome this Euro is!
I love the grain and flame that is on this Spalted top. The set up was great out of the case and a very nice weight...Not heavy and not light..Just right at 8lbs
I started researching Spector last year with the one Bass to rule them all mindset. I was originally going to get a Forte but I have only played slim neck profiles since I started playing Bass in the 80's. I played a friends NS2 back in the 80's and remember saying: This Bass is Bitchen man!.....but...The neck is to fat for my handsFast forward to last year and I got a chance to try out a Euro Wimbish and I was hooked. Spector tone, great combo of woods and a slim fast neck. Since I liked the look of the Forte's plain fretboard and matte finish but loved the neck on the Wimbish, I decided to create my version of a Forte/Wimbish.
A special thanks to Todd for making this 25 + year journey happen for me

A few shots indoors with my Spalted Maple truss cover installed and it matched the Spalted top very well and the flame looks great in person
