I know Delta airlines allow them on as carryon...that'd be my option as I wouldn't chance check baggage and not have it arrive:ninja:

Two cars crashed in the intersection and one was thrown into him. He sustained serious injuries including the loss of two fingers on his fretting hand. I'm heading to the hospital from work to see him, I was told he needs a lot of support right now he is devastated with the loss of his fingers. Just thought I would share, None of us can ever imagine not being able to play our Spector basses, so I can't imagine what he's going through right now.

I KNOW YOU GUY'S DON'T KNOW HIM BUT PLEASE KEEP HIM IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Mike (iceboxbass) just stopped by with his Coda 5XL for me to try. Really nice guy and a great bass! Nicest jazz I've played for sure. It's got something the Fender jazzes I've tried don't have.

You are more than welcome Andy! Glad everything fell into place to make it happen. And thank you for allowing me to play and drool over you brand new NS-6XL! It's so true that pictures don't do that bass justice! Wowzers!!! That NS-6XL is not only amazing to drool over but it's an amazing player also. :bassist: If you guys/gals ever get a chance to meet up with Andy, DO IT. He's a great guy and has amazing chops as any of you can testify to if you have his bands new album. (And I could leave my guns in the car too ;) )
Doh! Sorry Andy...in haste of the pending storm I forgot about the photo shoot! :( :crying:

Brand new w/case. Has the Aquilar OBP-2 in a vol/blend configuration. Extra nut as requested as this bass is probably going to get tuned to C standard.

Couple of small things first.
You would think on a bass that's going for the "None Mo' Black" asthetic, they would have went with black pickup screws. They are available, and the chrome ones stick out like a sore thumb. :hmm:

The bridge countersink needs to be raised by about 1/8".
This wasn't an issue with the old bridges, but with the new intonation screws it's almost impossible to adjust the middle two saddles without maring the body since the arc of the wood is at it's highest there and partially obscures the two screw heads (guess what I "almost" did :scowl:).

After trying it at 9 volts I've bumped it up to 18 volts and.....
....well, not much better.
Compared to my Euro4 running a trim Tone Pump (trim 50%, treble 1/4 up, bass 2/3 up), this OBP-2 at it's flat setting is somewhat dull with less output (both sets of EMG PJ's are set identically).
Same as compared to my Legend 6 that has DC's but also a trim Tone Pump run the same except the trim is only up to about 35%.

The only way the OBP-2 sounds close is to run both the treble and bass up about 50-60% from the center detents.
But even though, both the Euro and the Legend with the TP's have much more open, pleasing tone.

Anybody else able to compare these two pre's?
I'll reserve final judgement untill I get a few gigs under her belt, but it's very likely I may be getting another trim Tone Pump.

However, physically, this bass plays like a dream. :D

PS. Got my Schallers on it and did my normal repositioning of the bottom peg.

I must say phat...yes, the TP has more oomph at flat settings...but I usually run the OBP 2 with bass at 90-100%, treble at 60-75%, depending on what tone I'm going for. The OBP 2 needs to open up to growl. :bassist: To hear its voice. :) Glad to hear that you're liking the physical part of the Forte 4. :D

Actually, I'm finding that treble flat and bass at 40-60% up from the center detent is much closer to matching the other's tone.

Stay tuned. ;)

Honestly? I don't use the mids. You're locked in at either 400hz or 800hz and the mid bump I want for my tone is at around 1400hz, so I get that at the amp EQ. I do like to tweak in just a little on the low end (40hz), and add treble to taste depending on song and whether I'm playing with fingers or pick.

I just found the tone pump (remember IMHO YMMV) to be out of control. I backed that thing down to 30% and still it was too much. I feel if you have to back it down any more then the whole premiss of the preamp is not what you want.

Give it a month, play the hell out of it. If you're still not happy then PM me, I may take it off your hands. :D

The aggie OBP preamps are all about letting the tone "shine through" in my experience, really good when you want tonewoods and pickups to speak for themselves, but with Spector (IMO) the tonepump/USA9v/18v are more of an element of the Spector tone. If you want the natural sound, the OBP is great (I use the OBP-3 in other basses) but for the best Spector growl its gotta be tonepump/usa9v/korean usa9v copy/usa18v
