Dude, you guys are tight! Looks like it was a fun gig. And I do hear you on feeling like your posts are overlooked- but I do enjoy reading what everyone has to say, and I've enjoyed your posts as well as those by our other club members.

thanks man. we havent played together for over 1 year. but we're getting there slowly. lol. i feel you bro! it sucks, but like i realized, we post on here like madmen, so i have to take that into consideration. hopefully it gets a little more steady.

Was it a bolt-on or neck thru? If it was a bolt-on it was probably a Legend, Performer or Q4. If it was a neck-thru it could be a NS-94, NS-95, NS-2000/4 or 5.

I looked up pictures of those, none of them match. There was a lot of numbers and letters in the name but I am pretty sure I remember it starting with NS2A. Also, it MAY have been neck through. I wish I could go check it out if I didn't live 4 states away.

thank you kindly. it really is a great bass as long as i can keep from modding it too much. it's definitely a players bass and i can beat the crap out of it all i want and not feel too bad. dont get me wrong, i take extremely good care of my stuff, but if i had a usa, oh hell no! i wouldnt even think of it. lol

very true. i guess just because it's the same brand, doesnt always mean they will be the same like everyone here has said. but i have no basis of comparison, so i cant compare unfortunately. maybe someday

Hey Patrick.
Throwing this up just in case you missed it towards the end of the last thread.
Since you didn't comment, I assume you did:


"Traded the OBP-2 from my new Forte 4 to Mr.Bassie for a new trim Tone Pump he had.

Wired it up following the vol/blend configuration on Spector.Com and........nothing.
No hum, crackle, nothing.

Rewired it 3 times, careful to make sure every connection was solid. Checked, checked and rechecked the schematic. Nothing.

Thinking it was a dud, was about to give up and send it back to Mr.Bassie when I decided to look at one of my other Spectors with this configuration (don't remember the schematic I followed for this one as I've installed several of these) and noticed several different connections from the given schematic.

Wired it up one more time, following the changes I saw in my other Spector and YES!!!!! It's working perfectly.

If anyone is doing this. the changes, following the wires from left to right, with wires on the bottom like the pic in the schematic (follow this way as the colors are frequently incorrect). The Tone Pump sticker will probably be upside down this way:

1. And this may not make much difference in the ultimate grounding , but the grounds (braids) from both pups should be grounded to the chassis of the volume put rather than connected separately to the blend pot as shown on the Spector schematic.

2. A wire needs to be run from the grounded (to chassis) right lug of the volume pot to the bottom left lug of the blend pot. This same lug on the blend pot should also receive the black (second from left) wire from the Tone Pump with the white (first) wire going to the bottom right lug of the blend. This is opposite of the Spector schematic, but is the way mine (that works ) is wired.

Note: The wire from the bottom right lug of the blend that grounds to the chassis, shown on the Spector schematic is unneeded. The two white (hot) wires coming from the pickups go to the middle (upper and lower) lugs of the blend as shown on the Spector schematic.

The third through seventh wires (going to the treble and bass pots) on the Spector schematic are correct.
The black wire from the battery clip to the ring (long middle lug on the switchcraft jack) is also correct.

3. A wire from the bottom right lug of the blend should go to the middle lug of the volume. The wire shown to go from the middle volume lug to the jack ground is incorrect as shown on the Spector schematic.

4. The eighth wire (or third from right) goes to the sleeve of the input jack, not the volume pot as shown on the Spector schematic.

5. The ninth wire goes to the (short) ground lug of the input jack, not the left lug of the volume as shown on the Spector schematic. The left lug of the volume is actually not connected to anything.

6. The last (red) wire on the far right is correct as shown on the Spector schematic. Just remember if you are hooking up active EMG's you have to merge the red wires from the pickups to this last connection also.

I think I remembered everything.
It may seem complicated, but this info would have saved me hours of frustration.
Hopefully JPS will get the appropriate someone on this and fix it before this happens to anyone else.
I'll have to assume the other schematics are (hopefully) correct."

In with the hands down best bass i ever laid my hands on. That includes a host of very high end basses... my beloved Spector Euro LX

Love the Tonepump! I will switch this out for the US 9V once it's available again and put the TP into my "Thunderbird with Spector Innards" Dieselpunk stage bass.

Someday, yes. But if not? Your one Spector is worth three of any other.

We all have the sound in our head. I just got a different amp, hoping to not modify my new LX. Unfortunately, my legend still kicks its butt, for my sound... I'm convinced its the three band eq, giving me more mid boost potential. So I guess a new three band preamp is in order, so I can play my "main" bass instead of old faithful.
