It's already fixed and good to go. I know my ears are playing tricks on me, but I swear this preamp sounds just a little bit better than the 5 year old 18v..
Yeah still has the mid connection. There's a jumper on two of the pins. Not sure what happens if you take it off.
I thought I asked about a separate pot but I guess it came across as I wanted the whole preamp so that's fine. I can always get the pot and have another functioning 18v around, or sell it to offset the cost of the new one. Out of curiosity, can anyone point me at the right pot? I assume these can be had online from one of the standard parts vendors.
The bridge on it looks terrible, like someone painted it by hand with a wide stiff bristle brush and nail polish.

So I have this Fender Aerodyne Jazz that I picked up for a pretty decent price. It had some electronics issues which I found to be a few misplaced wires when the Dimarzio PJ p'ups were installed. Got it cleaned up, set up, and wired right, but it just isn't doing it for me tone wise. I like the feel and I like the way it sounds unplugged, but the Dimarzios aren't doing it. I'm just more of an active p'up guy.
Now to the point, I'm thinking of gutting the passive Dimarzio setup and installing an active EMG set and a Tonepump, to kind of Spectorize it. I know the battery and pre won't fit in the tiny cavity so I'll have to have a cavity custom routed. I've never really modified a bass to this extent, I usually stick to easily reversible mods. I wouldn't be doing the wood work myself, I don't want to completely ruin it.
Question is, has anyone else put EMGs and Tonepump in a non-Spector and how did it turn out?
I know I should just sell the damn thing and get another Spector, but I like this bass, a lot, and I already have my Rebop 5 for my Spector fix, I'm just trying to improve the tone of the Fender, and what better way than to start with the main ingredients that work so well in our beloved Spectors?

A guy named Bob Booker who fixed my crossover told me once that all electric components have variations/tolerance so when he rebuilds something (like my crossover) he checks each internal component and builds it back to the original specification...kind of like blue printing an engine with each part built to nominal. I told him everyone thought he was doing custom builds to the amps/electronics he has touched and his answer to me was a question 'What is a custom build' and said all I have ever done was blue print the amp/electronic components back to there original spec. You have just noticed the variation and sometimes it's for the best when dealing with sound. Bob was also the same guy who was given all of Tom Petty's equipment (from all his players) to blue print!

I've got a trimpot-Tonepump in a bolt-on Thunderbird I hacked together, sounds good a bit rounder than Spector tone but still has some growl to it, I think all the mahogany instead of maple is what rounds out the tone a little bit instead of being super-ultra-punchy on the actual Spectors

Been eyeing Spectors for the last year or so - although I've never played one, have been falling in love with the way they look and liked the sound from some artists who use them.
Was about to pull the trigger on a used Legend when I found this practically mint condition Rebop for sale locally and was able to get it for a great price.
Oh man, it feels so good. Thought I'd have trouble with the neck coming from an Ibanez Soundgear but even though it's certainly thicker, it's still very comfy for me and just feels great and love the body profile. The guy who sold it put new DR flats on which I've never used and I'm loving them. And it sounds fantastic!
Only negative is it's heavier than I'm used to. The Ibby feels lighter than my Tele guitar but this is noticeably heavier than the Tele. Still manageable, though. I'm happy!

Beautiful NS-2A...if one doesn't mind the hand painted black bridge and strange looking control knobs. Never seen control knobs with plates under them. Is this EMG standard stuff? I'd say $700-800 would be more realistic of a price. I see in his notes that he lowered price to $1200. Doubt it'll sell at that price...I'm always Leary when sellers use a sad story for reason to sell. Though I hope it's not true.

So you swapped out the old 18v Pre for a new one? What are you going to do with the old one? PM sent
Yeah - I wanted to fix it up quick since I wanted it available to me this weekend and I wasn't sure I could get the right pot and get it soldered on in time.

Bunk, what does it say on the side of the pot you replaced? My 5 is out on a loan.
Just checked the tracking # and it looks like my Rex 5 arrived in Winnipeg last night, but the offices are closed. I really wanted to go pick it up as my Euro 5 is in the shop right now and I'm Spectorless, but I know I'll have a good birthday (monday - scheduled delivery) as long as it gets here in 1 piece!
