Notice how close the PJ pickups are to each other on the BOs as well.

I hadn't noticed either but if you see how the deep socket neck comes down into the body they didn't have much choice.

Based on what I heard from the more closely spaced pickups on Lee's SS, that can only do really amazing things for the sound.

More focused tone, greater harmonic content and otherworldly punch would be my guesses :bassist:

On that note, I played my ForteSS last night with my cover band that has two loud guitars. It crushed and pushed with a veracity I've never heard before. That bass has major power on tap.

True in a sense, but I'm not suggesting they'd sound the same; based on AB'ing the sound of traditionally spaced J's in an NS-2 body versus the SS pickups placement there is a rather profound difference, and it's more due to the placement than the different type of J pickups.

Super Singles just sound like a bigger Jazz in the traditional placement on a bolt-on, Fender style instrument, but the Forte SS is a different beast entirely.

Compare a Warwick Streamer with JJ's to a Thumb (with the same woods and pickups) and you'll find similar results as well; pickups closer to the bridge yield more aggressive tone with added midrange punch and greater harmonic content.

Looking forward to hearing Gary post some sound clips when his NS-2 BO arrives over summer :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

BTW Matt, I just ordered the PJAX pups for the NS2 today. Looking forward to what they'll do for the tone. :D

Just got home from band practice with the Coda4. It took two days to get used to it (you were right, Tony); now I am loving it. I lengthened my strap about 5" and set my Zoom B3 to the exact settings that Sam posted for his NS-2. It turns out that those presets are excellent for the Coda, too!
I had what I consider to be the true punk bass sound today; it reminded me of Klaus Fluoride (Dead Kennedys). I got great feedback!
The Coda's a definite keeper! It'll be my punk bass, and the NS-4 and Webster are my metal mainstays.

I'll be honest, I always thought AJFA was recorded without bass before Jason was with them, because there was absolutely no audible bass. So this video has blown my mind, and also WHAT WERE THEY THINKING it fattens up the sound so well, doesnt sound nearly as tinny and hissy as the album normally is, and he gets some great tone, whoever mixed the album must have hated Jason or something!
