delucajohn2000 now has the 5 string case that I had.
But just from remembering when I had them standing side by side. The 5 string case was alteast 2 inches longer.

I will ask him to check the demensions.

A quick question: anyone with a Forte, is the S logo on the headstock Abalone, or MOP?

By the way, I just swapped out my DC's for a 35 PJ combo on my Forte X and I'm loving it. Sounds very close to my NS-2's now. Much better now in my opinion. Might be because the Aguilar is a 9v and EMG recommends 18v for them.

I finally got thru to PJ @ Spector and even though MF has different stocking #s for the four and five string cases, they are in fact the same. As previously posted, Spector now only sells a generic, one size fits all case for all NS series four, five and six strings.

A perfect example of the non stop Spector GAS.
Worshiprocker just got a NS-2A and he wants another a few days later.

It is a never ending cycle we are all stuck in forever.

I just measured the case and it's definitely a different size. The one for my Euro 5 is 49" x 15" so that definitely makes a difference since I tried using the 48x14 case Limaguy mentioned and my Euro 5 didn't fit.

You can wire it temporarily at 18 volts to see if it makes a difference using this.

I just measured the case and it's definitely a different size. The one for my Euro 5 is 49" x 15" so that definitely makes a difference since I tried using the 48x14 case Limaguy mentioned and my Euro 5 didn't fit.

Now that I think about it, the 5 string didnt fit in my 4 string case at all.

Based on this, and PJ's response. I guess it seems that they kept the 4 string size case and made the inside slighly larger so it would fit both the 4 and 5 string, but tightly.

I've got a question for the Spector experts here. I just bought a official Spector hard shell case for for my NS5 CR from MF. I specifically ordered the case for the five string. When I put the bass in the case, it will fit in the molded body section but it's extremely snug. You have to turn it at an angle to get it to fit. The lid also doesn't completely close unless you latch it. My NS2 fits with no issues. The box it came in only says Spector Bass on it. Did they mistakenly send me a 4 string case? Is there any way to tell for sure? TIA.

Just by this testimony alone, you have a 4 string case.

I ran into same problem, here's a letter from SPECTOR customer support.

for over a year now, we have one standard case,
for our 4st, 5st, and 6st basses. I am sure it's not
wide enough for your bass as a 6st is a VERY tight fit

sorry about that. how about a more generic case, with
no body cutout inside??

Chock this up in the pile of really head scratching (and in many cases really lame) moves from Spector over the years. :scowl:
So now they don't even offer a proper case for their neck-thru 6 string products.
Possibly their 4 strings either, as I know for a fact (I own all three cases) that a 4 does not sit securely in a case built for a neck-thru 5. :scowl:

MF (and I'm sure many others) still have old stock and you got the 4 string case from that stock. They need to either give you one of the "new" cases or find the proper NOS for your neck-thru 5.
Remember, "neck-thru" as all the bolt-ons, Legends through USA, will fit in a "old" 4 string case due to consistent body widths. The neck-thrus get wider as the string count goes up as the center neck plank gets wider, but body wings are the same.

The 5 and 6 string cases (old style now, I guess) are 49" x 15.5" (16" if you count the latches and hinges in that measurement).

I guess as long as I own a neck-thru Spector 6, or I find a 3rd party case to properly fit it (How lame is it to now have to do that if you order one of their extremely expensive neck-thru 6's...or even a moderately expensive Euro 6 LX?!?! :scowl:), I guess they'll have to pry my old 6 string case from my cold dead hands.

I love my Spectors, but some of their moves over the years have made it hard.
This is like buying a top of the line vehicle and being told they don't make the proper sized rims for it anymore.
"It takes 17's but all we offer now are these "one size for all" 16's.....and they sorta' work for our normally equiped 15" rim vehicles too!!!............................................"

It seems that the material used to make the body supports is very pliable and will mold itself to the different widths. After only a couple of hours, it's already started to give a little and my NS5 CR is starting to fit better. The reason they did this was to keep from increasing the price. The cost of manufacturing many different sizes is higher than making a one size fits all. I for one am happy that my bass fits very snugly in the case and won't be moving around even a little bit. I was just trying to make sure that MF didn't make a mistake and send me the wrong case.

Could be. So how much was this case? Was it less than about the $165 most retailers were/still are getting for the old case? If not, another step back for the consumer.
If the 5 was that snug at first, imagine a 6 string neck-thru.

I know there's still old stock out there. My local Sam Ash still has a bunch. I probably should pick up another 6 case...just in case (no pun intended).

We'll see how this new "flexible" one size sorta' fits all case pans out.
Considering you're not the first I've heard complain (or at least be puzzled) about it, I have my....reservations. Especially considering the big width difference from a 4 or bolt-on to a neck-through 6. I have a feeling the 4/bolt-on will always be a little too loose and/or the 6 will either never fit right or always be super tight.
It will be especially interesting to see how this flexible material does for our Spector friends in cold weather climates.

Especially considering the big width difference from a 4 or bolt-on to a neck-through 6. I have a feeling the 4/bolt-on will always be a little too loose and/or the 6 will either never fit right or always be super tight..

I got it for $140 w/ free shipping. It was the lowest price I've seen in a long time for a genuine Spector hard shell. I think it will work fine as long as you use it for the same bass all the time. I put my NS2 in it when I first got it this afternoon to check it and it fit perfectly. My NS5 has been in it every since and now it's a little looser. The NS2 still fits but you can move it ever so slightly. That's in a period of only five hours. I'm sure if you buy a new bass w/ case, it should be a good fit by the time you get it.

Trying to decide if the bridge is gonna bother me so bad I have to get a factory bridge and do some work . There's fillers made from wood on each side . The trim
Ring covers everything nicely , but looks very weird . No trim ring and it looks weird too . Opinions ????

It looks less weird without the ring IMHO.... how much work would it be to throw a stock bridge on?

On the upside I think it just looks different than what we are used to looking at... kinda makes it original.... i say play it for awhile and see if it grows on ya

I think it looks less weird without the trim ring.
And what a hack job! No offense to the person that did it but... "WHY!!!??!?!?"
Anyway. Looks like they butchered it some making the route large enough for that bridge.

I say the less you have to try and artfully fill in the better.

You may actually have a great candidate for a USA Bridge install.

JPS what are the measurements on the USA bridge ??? And yes it's a hack job ... Worst of all , the wedge of wood under the ba2 was sanded down in place and now its missing about a 1/4 inch of finish .... Good thing is I'm in it right ...
