Stingray 5 Club!

Just picked up a new to me Classic 5 to go with my ‘88 - couldn’t believe it was still in the store for the price it was tagged at.

Plays and sounds awesome. Loving the color, but wondering if I should get a white guard instead of the tort. The flamed maple neck is just nuts.

And this arrived today from Guitar Center in the Nashville area. It arrived with a case, case candy and paperwork. The body looks almost untouched. It does have a few minor, buckle indentations and a light swirl or two. I haven’t checked the year yet, but it is surely older than I anticipated, which is cool. Me Likes It!!

That’s sweet! I’d love to know more about the history of this bass. Any idea what year it is? What the name of the color is? Looks like an early 2000’s

THANKS! It almost matches the car in your Profile Avatar!!!

You are correct on the year estimation - It is a 2004. The color is called, Madallion Gold. It plays great! The neck profile is thinner than some 1990s models that I have played. Still not as thin as my gloss covered 1988 though. The info in the case and the case itself is newer (2013). Which probably means someone at GC, just grabbed a case to ship it in. ??? Besides the case, everything else appears to be all original, except the tip for the 3 way switch.

Just closing the deal on this:

I sold my last stingray (4 banger, honeyburst) in 2008 and have regretted it ever since.

I’m looking forward to ‘righting that wrong’

From 2000, which prompted my ceramic/alnico question above.

It will serve as the perfect tonal counterpoint (active/aggressive/velociraptor) to this bass, my current main squeeze, a reverend mercalli

Which is basically a hot-rodded P bass (warm/smooth/herbivore)
That SR5 looks exactly like the one I just bought! The pickup has the "ramps" on it, but other than that... Never been a fan of white pickups and pickguard, but this one is growing on me. Still would like to see what a tort guard would look like on it, though.

NBD!!! 1991 Musicman Stingray 5...
What can I say, wow.. blown away by this bass, very little wear, amazing shape. Plays phenomenally, Alnico pickup, Growls like a vintage Stingray 5, huge tone for days. Many thanks to Bassman28, he’s always awesome to do business with, & this was a homerun!
Edit: after checking Musicman database, the serial number indicates it was made Feb 1991. Love this bass!

NICE!!! Its like the Anniversary model from last year, without the extra $1500 price tag!

Thanks! It feels a little lighter than my 88 Sr5, & not quite as “in your face” as my 88.. Growl for days tho, & it sounds amazing!

Same!!! I have an 88 in Blueburst and that is my same conclusion. My 2004 is a little lighter in weight and the sound is tamer. The 1st position (closer to neck) on the pickup switch is a bit more organic on the 2004. My 88 just ROARS and sounds like thunder, in all positions!!

Very nice!

Is this a white finish that has aged a bit? Great look!
