Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

Hey all, I've only been reading Parts 7 & 8 of the doom thread, but wanted to thank you all for turning me onto some great bands.

Now my question: would it be against the doom canon to play with a clean bass tone? I'm just not a huge fan of distorted/fuzzy bass (no reflection on the boatloads of guys who are).

Do whatever you think sounds best, but even "clean" I like a little grunt, not fuzz, but slight overdrive.

I played clean for years. No problems. I added dirt in my new band because they used distorted bass on the EP before I joined.

clean works, i find it is easier to cut through distorted guitars and loud drums with a clean tone, but its just not as fun for me.

There's a Berg NV215 in the classifieds that's like 6 hours away from me. It's killing me cause it's "close" but still too far away.

Also, after I test the SVT some more I'll likely be selling the Magma rig as I don't like to hold onto too much gear at once. So if any of you are interested that will probably be happening.

Well there's a slight hiccup in my band, the drummer and his wife are divorcing and we practice at HER house! Made for an interesting prac last night, wasn't the greatest ever, but I'm sure my drummer had other stuff on his mind.

While all you guys talk about fuzz and OD, I'm actually kinda going the other way. I used to think there's never enough fuzz, but I took my big muff out of the chain and now I'm running just straight into my B2R. I like the clean lows and punch, with that slight Ampeg growl on top. But I still plug in the muff and crank her to 11 playing solo.

All these great bands are making me JEALOUS!!!! I cant wait to record, to get our stuff out there, so much great stuff!

Supervoid is a cool band name, well done there Laz.

I'm finally getting some jam sessions set up with drummers this week and next, after a few false starts. I've been working on writing the last couple nights and have a song I like almost finished. I might have to play guitar for trying out drummers until I can lock one down and then find a guitarist, especially since I don't have a spare cab yet. I was hoping to have sold a couple amps and a guitar I never play by now so I could buy another 8x10, but it hasn't worked out.
