Stoner/Doom Bassists 51: Back To The Future

Thanks guys.

On my third listen, MC.

Makes me want to jam with my band. We got a jam out song called Black Forest. It's a geographical location about 10 minutes north east of us. Just a bunch of black pines. But, you guys have the psych going better than we do. Your guitar player is a monster.

I really like this song.

Yeah Mykal blows my mind, the universe had to of aligned perfectly bringing him here to Milwaukee and him answering my ad on craigslist. And me and my drummer meeting in my prior, first heavy band.

Sounds good Max! Did you guys record this yourself with the new computer and mixer you've been talking about?

Yup a G5. And some sort of mixer inteface, im not to keen on recording stuff

So Church of Misery rocks, one of those band that have been mentioned here many times but I never listened to them, dont know why...

One thing though, how the fvck does he play that Ric so low, your basically taking half you fingerboard away, theres low and too low, and that is beyond low.

ya know how he does it?

Awesome, the Yob bass is amazing. I'm inquring for an all aluminum constuction, adonized finish, single pickup, block inlay, and top loading bridge set up for F. I think I'd go for the same shape as OldCrow got. I really dig the one Josh Newton from gearnerd.info has. I'm a little confused as to which shape is what, the 2 pickup and 1 pickup look similar and different so I'm not sure if that's a series 2 or a 500.

Still anxiously awaiting just hearing back from Kevin, way too early to be thinking about all of this stuff haha.

I'm using a set of circle k 34" scale .190 .142 .106 .079 They are the first and only strings I've found since playing in F in which the F string actually sounds like a note, and not just dull thudding that is kind of in key.

I tried a bunch of different strings and setups before finding the one that worked for me (Conklin, LaBella, mismatched sets made up of various gauges). But several of the basses/string sets I tried using just would not stay in tune. I would have to retune after every song, or even mid song, whereas I wouldn't have that problem with the same bass in a normal tuning.

I'd be interested as to what he said on the top loading as the bridge is built into the neck, I'm sure he could whip something up that would work but I'm curious.

Yeah, I didn't notice the bridge was built into the neck until later, but I also saw models with aftermarket bridges on there (I'm sure they were made that way, but not the built in one).

Do you recall how long it took him to get back to you when you inquired? I'm real impaitent when it comes to waiting for an email, also since it goes through his site I don't have a copy in my outbox to make sure I wrote my return email address correctly (I get that wrong more than I'd like to admit).

The cosmic plates aligned perfectly, huh? I think Highway is my favorite song of the three new ones you posted.

Church of Misery is a must listen for any dudes more on the Stoner side of the genre. We always talk about the rock side vs the metal side and Church is just plain good rock music.

Really varied. Sometimes he'd get back to me within a couple of hours, sometimes I wouldn't hear from him for a week so I'd send another e-mail asking if he got my message. A few times he said he never received them, which is bogus :P I think he probably clicked on some of my e-mails which marked them read, figured he'd get to it later and then just completely forgot.

One of the first times I actually played anything within the Stoner/Doom genres with other people was covering "Megalomania (Herbert Mullin)" by Church Of Misery, with me on guitar and a friend on drums in...errr...2002, I think. Before that I just recorded riffs by myself into a tape 4 track, with a crappy drum machine from a keyboard.

Ok cool, maybe I'll shoot another message just in case. I wrote the first one from my phone, so it is completely possible that I screwed it up.

What's the worse that could happen...oh this dude just really wants to give me money?

well coming from the builders perspective sometimes ur just overwhelmed with life and i dont wanna answer the nth email I just got so i let it site for a bit. However i do try to get back in touch ASAP.

but in all fairness depends on whose sending me the email. Sometimes for people i dig i will answer 100% of the time other times its not as urgent.
