well that suggests something is wrong but the glow in tube itself, fine. Depends on what the source is, if your hammering on the amp, and the tubes glows blue/white, that is the screens taking some abuse. Normal you would say but shows that you are being hard on it. Blue arcing lighting = **** is going to die, that is something electrically arcing. Deep Deep Red color = red plating, exceeding plate dissipation limit.

my brand new Sovtek KT88s in my 100w head i've recently had retubed glow blue like crazy. never seen such a vivid glowing before.

Amp has been fine since the day after I got it back from the tech. Played a gig with it and everything.

When the tech had it, he reconnected this inductor in the EQ section (may have been for the graphic EQ), and replaced two screen resistors.


Sadly, tonight Catapult was going to rehearse, but one of the guitarists now has a broken amp. :/

we have thought about it though. we're hoping to continue as we are, refine our songs and style more, whip up some great recordings and do a split record with someone via the magic of the internet - then maybe all our wildest dreams will come true and someone will actually fly us over for a tour. it's not some greedy 'make it big!' musicians pipe dream instilled in us by traditional parents or anything, we would just love to be able to play for as many people as humanly possible, tour around in a smelly van with other doom-bros and see countries other than our tiny isolated island nation!

Sounds exactly like what we want to do.

As far as flats, I used Chromes for a year or so and liked them, but found them a little sloppy tuned to C standard. I switched to rotosound 77s and love 'em. A little bit brighter, lots more tension. I can't imagine playing these strings in standard tuning.

It's alright, I play in standard tuning.

Buy an Orange (or a Matamp but in the USA it will be a pain in the a** to find one) !

As for the EB13, I really like their Mosrite-ish looks. The satin cream is by far the best looking one but I would put a black pickguard on it.

i've discovered i hate playing any other basses but ricks. this sucks so bad for my financial prospects.

In the music course I've just started,I have played any and every bass.P's,J's,fretless,upright,musicman,laklandetc.There's some interesting instruments out there.
But everytime I pick up my rick,I just feel at home.

man, this it it. i fly around it, it's so smooth and nice, i feel like i've worn it down to the shape of my hands. then everything else i am fighting to play the way i want or am just 'satisfied' with.

I will wait for a bench test before accepting their power ratings. The 400+ is listed as a 500 watt tube amp from mesa, bench test shows its more like a 300 watt amp.

I just dont see how they will get that type of power out of a tube head that only weighs 46 pounds. Unless they have some bitchen new transformer tech.

Hell, any of you guys need a layover spot in cleveland, let me know. I do have some house rules though: no smoking in the house, showering is mandatory, don't abuse the pets, and I don't cook meat. I WILL however make you a scrumptious vegetarian chili.

Until some new technology comes along that allows us to make 1000 watt 70 lbs tube heads I don't see much of a benefit to squeezing out an extra 50-100 watts, and in that range would be picking an amp solely based on sound.

What you have to consider is that its 150 watts of clean head room, or 200-250 watts of dirty head room. That might give you a few more db's in the end. A huge volume increase? no, but it is an increase in head room. If done right it will be noticable in the feel of the amp.

The real quesiton is how the OT will be effecting the low end. An under spec'ed OT will act like a HPF when you push the amp. If thats happening too high then it wont make any difference how much power you get at 1khz.

I don't think 300 watt tube amps are loud enough. However increased clean headroom in a tube amp would make it more desirable for me. I've never had a tube amp that I could play at the volumes I want/need to play and be able to retain the dynamics and headroom I would like.
