And will this harm my 400-RB if I do this? I know you're not supposed to do bass into guitar rigs, but is vice versa okay? I just tried it for a second, and it sounds OK, but my buddy's guitar rigs definitely sound better for guitar (whoda thunk, right?). Anyway, even if it might work and be ok, I think I'd prefer an amp designed for the instrument. And more research tonight about the Peavey Supreme sounds promising. Might snatch it up and wait for a good cab to match.

Oh, and it's a total bass rig. GK 400RB-IV into GK Neo 410. Didn't use a guitar cab or anything if that matters...

It can work, but it looks like you have tried it. Bass rigs can be too frequency focused to be a really great guitar rig, but some can pull double duty. The peavey rig I just got, can be a beautiful guitar setup. The cab is really shallow. I think that is the thing for guitar. Cabs that would be good "bass" cabs, can sometimes muffle the frequencies guitars live at. It all depends on the cab and EQ.

That's basically what I've been reading on guitar stuff. Found the amp I want (sounds great, precursor to the XXX) but the cabs are harder to find. And I'll need cabs that can go low so I don't blow something.

Welcome to the rabbit hole of guitar gear. Sunn 412L will pull double duty. Or 2-212L's. That design rules. Or Peavey made a tall 4-12, as did Ampeg. If you can find either one, they can do it.

Randall made a huge, deep 4-12. With the right speaker, could do bass.

I'm trying to avoid that rabbit hole, as I'm still stuck in the bass one. Just need a cab, really, at this point. I've got plenty of pedals that do double duty just fine, so that's good to go, since I've tested them on friend's rigs.

What does friend's rig consist of? You mentioned it worked for both on his rig.

Oh, my effects worked fine on his rig. Never plugged my amp into his cab. My buddies' rigs consists of a Crate Flexwave and matching cab and an Ibanez Toneblaster head into a Laney 412. Nothing spectacular, but sounded better playing guitar than my bass rig did, that's for sure.

Anybody have any info on Randall stuff? Specifically this? Like I said, I don't need AMAZING stuff, just stuff that will last and sound pretty good. So a matching setup is tempting, since I would be done.

Yeah... playing in a band with sometimes three guitarists, I really need to cut through. Though I had a midrange heavy tone even playing in a trio, too, as there I was performing the functions both of bass and rhythm guitar really.

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to this second guitar to catch up with our songs. If he works out I can get back to kicking it with the drummer on the groove and not acting as second guitar/bass.

Ugh, that is a miserable process.

Is that echo shifter more than delay? It has a modulation switch, is it more of a chorus with that on?

Also do you guys put your non delay modulation before or after dirt? I tried both ways a couple times these last few days with my chorus. I was hoping I'd dig before dirt more as it would help a lot with setting the board up as stereo optional. Before was more like a thickener, where as after was a definite chorus effect.

Thanks, it definitely fills the Stingray gap...and kinda the Ric one too. I didn't really miss my Ric that much, but being able to get a similar tone to the one I did with my old one without the playability issues is cool.



Nope, it's a Korean Cort made one, I looked up the serial number. From the first year of production, but they moved them out of Japan reaaaaally quick. It's nice though, I dig it.

That's just my box of music accessories junk. Strings, cables, picks, strap buttons and miscellaneous junk. I had it out when I sold the Ray, I threw in an old strap to the kid since he didn't have one. I need to dig some Schaller strap lock buttons out to put on this baby.

Doesn't surprise me that it does a bit of the Rickenbacker thing. That pickup looks to be in basically the same position.

Yeah... that's the thing I found in the trio. A lot of times I'd kinda have to be holding down the riff like rhythm guitar. Or so it felt like.

Great news, doomers. The lost key situation at work has worked out and I only have to pay for the physical key replacement so its only $50 out of my pocket. Much better than the thousands of dollars they scared me with at first to re-key the whole building.

To add to the good news, the guy who was selling the Berg NV610 a few weeks back just hit me up and made me an offer I simply couldn't turn down. Spoiling myself for my birthday and picking it up this weekend. YEW!

Well my surprise amp sale fell through. Surprise. Not a big deal as a week ago I had no idea it could be sold. And I can't blame the guy as he was super nice, he just found a better deal more power to him. Sucks that it puts my cab fund back on ice. Oh well.

On the bright side there is an 800rb for sale for 350 an hour away. Maybe I'll make a weekend journey out of it. So tossed between my need for cabs and my want for amps.

Exactly my feelings. Earache shafted them, and while I can't abide by that, that blue/orange swirl is REALLY calling my name...

I worked for 15 hours the 4 days in a row before the release. My alarm went off so I could wake up and order the green one o wanted. I had to work in 3 hours and was too tired to figure out the site via mobile so I said **** it and went back to sleep. I heard all the colors sold out in an hour and the decided to press 2 more color options. Jumped on the green/red swirl with shirt. **** Earache but I'm pumped to Dragonaut and druid in a few weeks.

I'm tired of all those excuses and cancelling practices 3 hours before them.
He either has a shvtstorm at work, is out of town or, like yesterday, had to cancel everything and go with his daughter on winter vacations. (All of a sudden)
Our guitarist works in an advertising agency and really lives on a crazy work schedule and he cancelled the practice only once for work reasons.

So yeah, I'd rather go through that process than play with him.

The sad thing is, we've known each other for like 15 years and when he eventually came, it all clicked together really well and he really contributed quite a lot to our music.

I am coming to a similar conclusion with my band. I love the guys and the music. It's all super cool, but they like to practice the week before a show and no more. Sometimes we just free ball it. My rhythm tard and I both think we need work but the drummer and lead tard seem to think it sounds fine. Maybe because they get nothing but rave reviews from friends. Idk. Maybe the extensive precision I experienced in 15 years of marching band has molded my musical mentality. I don't see that as a bad thing. Now I don't have kids, but I have by and large the busiest schedule and haven't cancelled anything. This coupled with my constant sonic struggle is pushing me to an ultimatum. We need to figure our balance out and hold to a strict once a week practice barring sickness or emergency or I'm out. I know ultimatums are not the best idea but I have sunk to much money and time in a band run by people who are satisfied with mediocrity. Any band maintenance tips would be much appreciated.

All I can say is...

YOU GUYS WERE TOTALLY RIGHT! This thing is a beast! Beautiful, solid neck, low action, hot pup... I'm in love.
It is a little bit beat up, but that's what you can expect from a 31-years-old instrument.
The only thing I had to do is restring it, previous owner was a righty and had the strings, er, the wrong way

Just ordered my first guitar rig! Well, minus cab. It'll be an Ibanez ARZ307 (7 string Les Paul) and a Peavey Supreme head! Now, to wait the agonizing days for shipping...

As far as cabs that can do double duty, I really dig guitar through my Faital loaded Dually. I think there are better guitar cabs out there for sure, but it will do in a pinch.
