Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I wish I was making 40k! No OT for me either. I am on the sour side of salary currently. Hopefully soon I will have more people, enough that I can work 40 and leave. At this point I would be totally ****ing my team if I left early with the workload we have. 8-9 hours without breaks before we are even done producing. Then we have to pack and I have to organize it and prepare for the next night.

I work on a french flat top going full blast. Hard to get away from the heat once all the iron is at its max. I loose about 10 pounds each shift. As long as I have water, I can keep going. 40k comes out of working 6 nights a week, which is taking its toll with my day job.

40k is pretty damn good for a cook, but your at a nice place. I wager most cooks are like $9.50hr

And at 80k you should be banking, isn't it super cheap in MI?

Ya know...there are definitely more expensive places to live, but it's not as inexpensive as it should be, given the state of the economy.

Home prices are reasonable, but taxes and utilities add up.
Insurance seems more expensive here than other places I've lived.

But the job market is frustrating and depressing.

Any of you guys have experience with either Headspin Records or Nasoni Records? Both are European vinyl labels specializing in Stoner/psych type stuff.

The old guitarist me and the VEGA drummer used to play with, his new band Lord Montegue, is under Nasoni records I believe. I remember him saying they make like 300 vinyl and give you 50 to do with what you please and make money off of, and they sell the rest for themselves. They repress another 300 when they sell out of their 250 and you get another 50.

Anyone tried the DOD 250 overdrive? I feel some Al Cisneros fanboy GAS coming...

Its an always on for me, gives a volume boost and bit of grit to my super clean Dunwich preamp/DI setup. Also used it to boost a VTM60 into JAWESOME territory for overdubs for Galactic Hatchet.

I live risky and dont use straplocks. I smoke but have been cutting way back, down to a pack a week. I partoke, not as much as i used to. I drink Wisconsinably. But I still think a Peavalanche is what will kill me.

If I wasn't dumping huge amounts of cash in to helping my parents then I would be doing very well. When my moms disability kicks in it will take a lot of stress out of the picture.

**** yeah, UFOMAMMUT is coming to the U.S.! Tours starts in Chicago and ends in Milwaukee. Might have to make both of those shows.
Just got some good news. We're opening for them in Houston!

Well that alphabass wasn't cutting it, think it needed new tubes and it weighed a ton, and no one wanted to drive to denton to get it. This guy always hits me up to trade stuff, but lives on the far side of dallas. Well I went by today as I was in that area, and he had tons of peavey gear, mostly guitar oriented, but still wow max would be jealous. Anyways I wanted a straight across trade no money spent (or I'd of walked out with a roadmaster or the classic 400). Well it was between a vtm 60 and this guy. In the end it's like almost half the size of the vtm it seemed like and is 120 watts so that's that!

Dude so peanut butter and jealous of you right now...

I put schallers on all my basses, and on all the straps I have. Best strap lock system out there IMO. The dunlops are cool, but if that retention spring fails, your bass is taking a dive....

I put Dunlops on every instrument. The ones on my SB2 are ~9 years old, the ones on my Parker are ~16-17 (oi vey). I have never had a set fail. But hey, as long as you're happy :)

I used to have Grover strap locks on multiple instruments but that chrome knobby thing eventually unscrews itself. I found these a much simpler solution and I haven't dropped anything yet:

It's damn near pristine as the chassis is concerned. It's not the original head box, but a home brew shortened peavey encore combo box or something.

The grovers must be Schaller copies or vice versa, look identical and I guess that's what I have.

Got my beta bass out of the shop yesterday. Spent the morning turn knobs and trying different combinations of speakers, slave heads, and cabs.
Beta running both channels. High gain / low gain. 80/20 mix
The winning combo:
beta bass > ampeg 610
Master out > VB2 > ampeg 810

Second place was
Beta > 610
A out > Terror > marshall 412 (dirty)
B out > VB2 > 810 (clean)

Listened to some live soundboard mix from the public radio set...that rig sounded great! Had a mic on an 18 and a Countryman b/w the Vulcan & 3620. The F800 was backup.

I've been really happy with P + picking > Sheehan OD into Vulcan lately; tons of attack. I'll click on extra dirt (VT or BB) here or there as needed. Last night I used the Ruiner and it was mui tasty.

As for straplocks, Schallers.
