Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

View attachment 576010
The reason I don't need the T-40, im finally fixing up the roadstar ii corey helped me get. Got the stripped pickup screws pulled and the holes widened, cavity and pickguard copper lined, guts picked out. I'll wire it, file the nut and string it tommorow.

ADGC via a fiver set of chromes

No contour on it or my 32" bronco, but I play with my wrist in the valley between the butt and horn and float my hand across the end of the fretboard. Always comfy to me.
. IMHO you don't have to use tree trunks for strings if your using flats......or rounds :).

So I've been crushing hard on Lowe Custom Guitars for a while now. Dude does some awesome work.
Getting one right now is just out of reach and kinda superfluous considering I don't have time to start a band.
Anyways he did a group buy for his new medium scale conversion necks and the Mrs. encouraged me to order one for our anniversary.( Pretty awesome) So I'm on the list sweet.

I don't own a single bass I could stick this on so I guess it's time to build one.

Looking at bodies to pair up with it.

Getting this headstock in maple/maple(wife's condition). Lined fretless(also the wife's condition).

Part of me wants to stay simple and slap it on a Precision body and call it a day. I keep seeing these unfinished Iceman bodies and now I'm not sure...

If I found one in reverse P I'd be sold already.

Any opinions?

Sweet Neck! This is a pic of one of his guitar bodies but I'm sure Bobby (the builder) Ramone would make what body you want. He always builds to Fender spec neck pockets. Maybe a reverse Bo Diddley! He will do pup routes you want too.

Awhellyeah. What's your poison? The past several months I was on a major "dark and thick as I can get it" jag. I discovered something called "Milk Stout" from a brewery in Colorado that is amazing.

Now that Spring is here I'll probably switch over to some more lagers and pale ales. At least that seems to be the way I roll...

Well, despite the abundance of microbrews in town I've been drinking mostly this stuff:

Affordable and delicious. If I'm drinking micros it's usually from New Glarus or Ale Asylum seasonal. I like to drink with the seasons. Maibocks should be out any day now, must be spring!

I call that stuff the local old man beer. Still blows my mind how Yuengling blew up, that was one of the old man beers from where I grew up.

Holy shvt! I don't know how I've never heard of these guys, but there is literally a vinyl pressing plant 15 minutes away. no shipping costs, no need to worry about customs or exchange rates. this makes things a lot more affordable....I just need to see what the quality is like.

That is great! So glad you found that. For a few years there I thought small vinyl producers would be gone forever.

A band I was in about 15 years ago wanted to release a sort of comic book that came with a series of flexi-discs (remember those?) But the only place we could find still making flexis was in Germany, and now I don't think they can be found at all (although any vinyl cutting machine MIGHT work with flexi disc plastic. That's more than I know about the subject.

And besides, it was just a passing idea, just a gimmicky thing we thought it would be fun doing.

Anyways, I'm jazzed for you!

Oh yeah. Love the old Gretsch look for sure. In fact, here's a pic of the guitar that was my #1 for the better part of ten years before I had to let it go:

Flexi-disc! Like when Mucky Pup made the songs for the flexi-disc in the Billy and the Boingers comic book!

I've never heard of this festival before, but it has the most badass name in the universe.

I can't help myself, a goat was mentioned. Merlin the goat is Stoner until feeding time then he goes all Metalhead Dick and headbutts poor Stookey the pig. I feed them separate though to avoid it and they still sleep together, might be time for an interspecies marriage.

Goddammit! Now I'm going to be obsessing until I figure out what happened to MY Billy & the Boingers Flexi-Disc… probably thrown out by my Mom. Ah well, they sold out. They were better back when they were called Deathtongue :)

Surprisingly, I don't have an arrest record, despite all the stupid **** I did in my late teens and early 20s.

No, you're not getting bagged on because Bassons are heavy. I don't care about weight. My cab weighs probably around 175 pounds and it only has two speakers.

You're getting bagged on because Bassons are ridiculously inefficient. That's a fancy way of saying "quiet." Obviously they'll be loud if you pump two thousand watts into them, but if you take a regular old 300 watt tube head (that probably weighs at least 60 pounds), and plug it into a Basson, it'll be considerably quieter than if you plug into most other cabs of the same speaker configuration.

If you actually have a couple kilowatts of power to slam that cab with, well then, yeah, the Basson's high power handling would come in handy. But most people don't, even people interested in playing ridiculously loud.
I'm running a tc electronics blacksmith, it's light and powers it, getting a better sound than through my mesa 1516 and powerhouse

yeah the last album cost us a fortune because shipping prices have skyrocketed and also the Canadian dollar is not doing well compared to the US.

Speaking of which, for the guys in the US looking to press vinyl this might be an option for you. They offer free shipping to the US and the exchange rate works in your favor.

Bwah ha ha ha! Yeah I think I saw it on a visit back home in my Mom's basement in a foot locker I had growing up. I actually loved Mucky Pup and got that Billy and the Boingers comic and when I listened to it I said holy shite that is Mucky Pup. A guy I went to Basic Training with was buddies with the guys in Mucky Pup. Man that is way way back.

My buddy Brendan from Wasted Theory started his own label up called Snake Charmer Coalition. He's a good dude and is the guy who runs the Eye of the Stoned Goat fests. I think he'd be pretty good at running a label. Hope it works out for him.

we're going to start a label to issue our own releases. details soon hopefully.

I used to work graveyard with a bunch of folks from Somalia at a home for the medically fragile. We got to use the kitchen and in addition to preparing meals for the residents, we could make meals for ourselves.

These Somalians were great cooks, and they seemed to use goat meat for every protein.

Goat meat = good eating.

Just sayin'.
