Probably the wrong crowd, but anyone ever play a violin "Beatle" bass with stainless or other bright rounds?

So, I'm taking Monday off because of Torche - this is going to be the first weekend in a long, long time that I won't have to be doing shaging algebra all day. So many things on the to-do list.

Might jam with the new drummer tonight
I need to check bias on the 2-PRO and re-adjust if needed
Clean the damn house
Buy seeds for the garden
Start some of those seeds
Rake the mulch off of the flower beds that I planted last fall
Clean and spruce up the front porch
Clean windows
Take down all the rest of the plastic sheeting on the windows
Drink beer in the out-of-doors

Busy, busy busy - but if it ain't school work I'm all for it.

Hopefully going to see Torche this weekend - no local openers on that one. I don't know anything about openers, hope they don't suck.

I busted my ass to be able to take tonight off and see them. My friends in local band Hell Night, are opening. I am pumped that I get to go.

I myself am definitely a nerd. My favorite books are a series set in a world co-created by two anthropologists initially as a setting for their tabletop pen and paper RPGs.

Which series? I am in the middle of writing my own setting right now.....

Not a main gig. Still with Valley. We are writing right now with a goal to release a full length at the end of the year. I can't wait to keep you guys posted with samples. Although the secondary project also has a goal to put a 12-15 song album out as fast as possible.

I have been set on a new rick at some point this year as well. Thinking fireglo, jetglo, or snowglo if I can find it. But that guild also sounds awesome. I just had a thought today to sell my SB2 and put a down payment on a white on white LB100 with a GZR.... gotta get this tattoo finished and get some more finances in order first though.

And the amount of low end is ridiculous. I am seriously contemplating the sale of my SB2.

I try to avoid the machismo at all costs. Being a BA sociology I am generally peeved by hypermasculinity and hegemony in general. I like the chilled out good ol boys.g

The wife has the kids listening to Top 40, and the amount of douchebaggery is astounding. Not what I want my kids to emulate. Not that they need to be tortured sols to be artists, but maybe not singing about BJs would be a good start.

I think part of it is that when you hit a certain age, as music obsessives, you have a METRIC $#!% TON of music-listening under your belt.

It gets to the point where it's like "Well, I've heard this before, and I liked it more when it was more original."

I often get turned on to a band and think "Well, this is okay, but they are just ripping off (insert name of a band that was doing something similar earlier on)."

And that's okay. Originality is not the be-all and end-all of making or listening to music. If it were, we'd have precious few things to listen to!

Going through this right now. But I am also trying to train my kids, so I have them listening to mostly 60/70s motown, soul, reggae, 80/90s alt/college rock, and some more modern Alt Country stuff. Its fun using learning for evil.

yeah the last album cost us a fortune because shipping prices have skyrocketed and also the Canadian dollar is not doing well compared to the US.

I played it with whatever factory strings it has. Not impressed. Very thin sounding. Not confident it would have the same presence in the mix as my jazz basses have over the years. It was extremely lightweight though. Very comfortable

Satyrnine, that bass came out killer man.

I finally sold my last cymbal on Reverb, after having it listed over a month and up on the local CL. That's paying for a Dunwich custom pedal build. Now I just gotta move a couple clone pedals and the great gear purge is about complete.

If you had just described this bass to me, I wouldn't have thought I'd have liked it, but seeing it is an entirely different deal. It's just all manner of classy and tough looking.

I am just gonna come out and ask this here because I think it's the only part of the forum where I won't be killed by flaming.

Does anyone know of any source for a Ric bass kit or a Ric bass clone that has a bolt on neck?

Believe me, I would have no problem buying the real deal Ric even if I had to save for two years and sell most of my other stuff (and I would have to do that...)

But, call me OCD, my main problem with Rics is that I simply prefer bolt on necks 100% of the time. I could go into the reasons I have this attitude, but it's long winded and not all that interesting.

I used to have a Jetglo, unbranded MIJ Ric copy many moons ago and it had a bolt neck. I've seen several other copies with bolt necks, but they are either on auctions that get shut down by the Rickenbacker company or there is some other obstacle...

I've seen the Chinese Fakenbackers and some of them look darn nice, but they too have glued necks and I just don't think that I'd go that way. I know, it's a weird mindset...

Any advice/suggestions/pointers would be appreciated.

Ok. You got me. The pick guard did tie it together... The only thing I would say is get some black screws for the control plate and guard. I've been GASSing for a J for a couple years now. Your not helping.

If you go DIY, Bobby (the builder) Ramone will hook you up. I know he made a Type O Negative clone Ric for that guy I mentioned that bought some gear off of me. I hear you on the bolt on. I sold off my Waterstone Rickenfaker and about to sell off my PRS SE Santana guitar because of it. I just want Fender bodies and necks but with pickups from other companies now.

A blend of laziness and migraines has it sitting on rack with unfinished electronics and me playing more 6 string lately LOL. Plus I seem to be in Richmond almost every weekend because of the girlfriend's exotic pet business. I got copper tape and the better shielding paint waiting for me, but further investigation seems like I did a poopy job of soldering the ground wires to the one and only pot on it. Thinking of going star ground and if it is still noisy I will paint the inside with the shielding paint since I will already have the star ground in and ready to go.
