I'm socking this info away for future reference. Working on a long distance recording-only project with a buddy in Texas right now. I've played on several CD releases in my years (and before that, cassettes!) but being on a vinyl release in some form or fashion is on my bucket list.

When we finally get some stuff mixed I will try to throw a track or two up here if it's cool.

I used to work graveyard with a bunch of folks from Somalia at a home for the medically fragile. We got to use the kitchen and in addition to preparing meals for the residents, we could make meals for ourselves.

These Somalians were great cooks, and they seemed to use goat meat for every protein.

Goat meat = good eating.

Just sayin'.

Yeah if shite ever goes south our mini zoo should keep us going for a good while...then I guess it is on to the neighbors

Man, that's just the way to do it these days. I mean, it would be great to get picked up by Southern Lord or something, but one aspect of The Decline and Fall of the Music Industry that I think is a positive is that it forces a move back to DIY and gives all creative control (and profit if yer lucky) back to the creators. Instead of signing contracts or taking advances which wind up screwing you in the long run, and selling your souls to some suits, you can release your own stuff, book your own tours...it's the way we did it in the 80s pun crock scene, whether it was no-name local bands from any pissant town on up to labels like SST and Dischord that operated that way.

Did it already have bridge holes drilled?
that I'm a wee nervous about DIY. Ideally I want a stained finish. So I don't want my initial attempts to result in exposed holes.

Yes it did and it also had the through holes drilled. Natural/stained is the way too fly. Get your rub on!

it's not. we're doing it so that we can say we're on a label. get some street cred you know. there is talk to include other bands but I doubt that will happen.

The string through holes but the neck mounting holes were drilled also. He is a cool dude to deal with. It's a small world too because I had some stuff listed on Craigslist and a guy from Arkansas in town to visit his family traded me for it and he was having a Fackenbacker built by Bobby. I effed with the dude when I figured it out and said man this cool dude from Arkansas just sold me a Rickenbacker clone. Dude's mind was blown, and I said no Bobby just wanted me to mess with you.

. IMHO you don't have to use tree trunks for strings if your using flats......or rounds .

I tried B standard on the bronco by tuning down the existing strings. Loose but not bad.

Still I bought these a year ago. Time to use them as I'm cheap, and not too picky. Though I do prefer high actions and thick strings.

Big touring bands? Or small touring bands? For small bands it seems like it would always be beneficial to have a local opener for a better draw. For bigger bands, if they think it won't help the draw a lot of times it makes sense not to include one. For example, tried to get us on the Graveyard/Clutch/Mastodon show but it will sell out without a local opener so I think they ended going without one.

I can't help myself, a goat was mentioned. Merlin the goat is Stoner until feeding time then he goes all Metalhead Dick and headbutts poor Stookey the pig. I feed them separate though to avoid it and they still sleep together, might be time for an interspecies marriage.

Hopefully going to see Torche this weekend - no local openers on that one. I don't know anything about openers, hope they don't suck.

I cannot express how happy it makes me that you have a tiny goat named Merlin.

You may dig this. Some new baby hedgehogs and one does Cookie Monster vocals, actually he is self-anointing like hedgies like to do. Another adult got out of his cage and while on the lam crawled in my Bassic. No idea he was there while I hamfisted power chords through the Tryant Fuzz. When I finished playing I heard him scratching at the port plastic, had to get him out with a spoon LOL.
Also if anyone is interested in the Tryant Fuzz I am going to move it on and buy a different Nine of Swords pedal with a master volume. I love it but it has way too much volume for playing at home and I just can't balance out the rest of my pedal volumes with it. That thing has insane volume and gain. Doomer Discount of course.
