Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I wanna be in sleestak land.

I'll probably try that wax thing, sounds not too expensive, and it wouldn't hurt to have beeswax around the house I imagine.

By the end of the day I'll have a few snares and stands to choose from, including a double Tom stand. That said my rack toms are Pearl style shell mount, so they are gonna have a big chunk of hardware or at least a gaping hole in them if I don't mount them via that hole.

Murray's Beeswax. Like two bucks at the Dollar Store/Walmart, etc. I use it for my hair and slap a bit on screws before screwing them in(probably a joke in there somewhere). Multi-purpose. Make sure you get the normal one the other has black dye in it. Uhm it's in the uh um ethnically diverse hair care product area.

Killer! Just be conservative with the wax. It's more to fill in the grain of the wood on and around the bearing edges, than to create a coating. I believe I ended up using a block of beezwax, cut a starting groove in the block, warmed it with a heat gun and gently wiped it around the bearing edges, rewarming when necessary. Then use the heat gun again to gently warm the wax that's been deposited on the edges, allowing it to even out and sink in a bit. I'd do that after you finish the drums, so you don't accidentally get any wax on areas you want a finish.

Yeah, sometimes "ideal" mounting just isn't possible. For our genre, extreme sustain isn't all that important anyway. Attack/punch is likely more important. All that said, leaving the mounting hardware on the drum, but unused (say, if you used a snare stand for your tom) is still better than using the shell mounting hardware to mount. Any way you go, you'll be fine. Post pics when you're done!

btw, Emperor makes drums! Drooool.

I use barely any at all to mildy hold it after dry, like pomade, it doesn't look shiny like gel. I am pretty nappy for a white boy, not Jewfro, but wavy gravy for sure. The rockabilly types use it but I don't have hair like that at all. Jmac tipped me off about it, he may regret that now though LOL.

I don't want no Damn FOP, I'm a Dapper Dan Man!

Exactly! My bed head looks like the Ancient Alien guy every morning.

Maybe I need that stuff, I wake up like him too, but then I just leave it be. If my hairs shorter it's not bad, but I'm starting to look like the mad scientist off his meds.

LOL worth a shot since you need some for woodworking anyway. I kept short military cuts for years after I got out of the guard and think my hair is just in defiance now.
