Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Ghetto for now and needs a pair of 6L6's, but here's the mini tube head setup.

Eventually the chassis will need painting so it's not upside down, another headcase (I need a good design. Also I'd like to modify it some, to get closer to Marshall or Bassman spec. Maybe get EL-34 compatibility as well and push it for 50-60 Watts.

Can you guys help me out here? The Sunn Spectrum II head I bought a while back came with a cabinet. The seller (alcoholic) said it was a 15, but it looks like an 18 to me. The cab is 24" wide. There's 2 inches on each side between the frame and inside of the box. 3/4" ply outside of that.. so 24-5.5= ~18 to me.

It has two horns as well, each with a capacitor in place. The woofer will not move at all (9v battery test) and doesn't register on ohm-meter, but the horns make noise. I'm assuming the woofer is toast.

What kind of driver should I get to replace? Maybe a Carvin? Box is not deep. There is a port.

Also , I cannot find any info on this cab anywhere. I googled and looked in old Sunn catalogs. The Spectrum II is '68, but this isn't the cab that lists with that head in the catalogs. Any info you guys can point me to is also cool.

@dcarwin BW that fvcker!!!

@mc_muench

How do you like the cathedral?

Had the first GH practice with it. I think its going to work great compared to delay. It adds just enough extra sonic fill without making it muddy like delay did. Theres so much different verb this thing can do, so its gonna take some exploring. Reverb is my favorite effect and this is definitely an uber reverb.

Also Monday was a new cab day...Peavey 412. Using if for PA use for GH, my vox and kick run through the PA200>412. Thinking of using it for that at shows too. Just have the sound guy mic that cab and thats it, because that spring verb on the kick and vocals is perfect. I love reverb...

And PVY...

That cab looks correct for the period, but you're right that it is not the original cab for the Spectrum II. My guess is it's either the cab from a Sonic I-40, Sonaro, or Sentura I, all of which came with 1x15s. Unless someone has changed the speaker, it should be a 15" still, not an 18", so once you take it out I'd measure it and check to see if the front baffle has been modified in order to accomodate a larger speaker (I get the math, but it looks pretty much the same as other contemporar Sunn 1x15s I've seen).

Tweaked the peavey EQ for a while watching walking dead on popcorn time (it's awesome). Low volume clarity issue is solved for now. Though it did bring up an issue that's less pressing, but I didn't think about having to deal with.

The cut lows mean when I engage my hi cut switch on my bronco there arent highs/high mids or lows and it's kinda significant volume drop for anything other than practice.
