Dude who directed the new Godzilla actually did a good low budget monster movie..called "Monsters" which was actually really good, more of a character piece in a world with monsters, but it was good enough that they gave him Godzilla to do for his follow up. Monsters is on netflix, the Host used to be, but I'm not sure if it is anymore.
I'm on the fence about the new Godzilla, might wait until it hits the bargain theater or drive-in before I go.
Any of you guys ever watch the TV show called The Bridge (the original Danish/Swedish one, not the FX remake)? We're almost done with the first season, it's a really damn good cop/detective show. Highly recommended.

Great movie. The wife and I went on an Asian-horror kick and found several great movies. Wish I had more time for that stuff now.
I saw The Host, good flick. There's a certain vein of Korean horror movies that have a really fun/weird tone to them. Thirst was another good Korean horror flick that I enjoyed, that was entertaining but off kilter from what I would expect to see in the type of movie it was. I saw Monsters too, you're right about the whole giant monster thing being more of a backdrop for the characters. I found it to be a good movie and an interesting mood/concept. It was almost like a post-post-apocalyptic landscape. What happens after monsters destroy everything and then everything just has to keep going and it becomes normal.

That dude was hella cool with his weird, disturbing art. Apparently he would literally paint the things he saw in his nightmares. Where are Triptykon going to get album art now?
Yeah. A good dub can be okay, though I'm more okay with dubs in animated films. Bad dubs can just ruin a movie, though. I'd much rather read subtitles. Usually I prefer the subtitled version to the dubbed version in live action movies.
You still have a drive-in theater where you are? Holy poopie. That's cool.
I'm pretty interested in seeing the new Godzilla. Looks like it's going to be more in the style of the old ones. The only thing I liked about the 90s one was the design of actual monster. Everything else was blah to me.

Yeah, there's 1 that's about half an hour away in the country, another one about an hour away. It's a blast, even if the movies aren't that good. It's always a double feature and tickets are like 8 bucks per adult. No carry in food or drink, but there's a really good concession stand with good quality burgers, fried chicken, candy, popcorn, etc and there's a bar at the edge of the property where you can go get a drink before the show and/or during intermission. It's just a really fun way to spend a summer evening.
Edit: ...and Godzilla is playing this weekend at the drive-in. Might just have to check that out.
