Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Went to MGR to pick up some longer cables for this weekends FULLHenge gig...ended up walking out with this...

610 with OG speakers. PVY is a disease I tell yah.

Da T45 is sweet, a bit more middy with less low lows than my washburn P. Kinda miss those lows, but T45 looks so nice with PVYHenge.

I have been super intrigued by the Magick Fuzz. I almost jumped on one of the last production runs, but decided it wasn't the best financial choice at the time. I would be anxious to hear it through GZRs. Could you do some low gain settings as well? I know thats against the S/D groups general MO but I like to stack my fuzzes without it going into fart territory. I am also really interested in some of Dunn O))) effects stuff. He is a local guy who is appears to be gaining a legitimate following. He does a rams head clone, that I think he told me was originally based on a Bluebeard that he calls the Black Beard. He has invited me over a couple times to check out his studio but I just haven't had the time. He does have a killer collection of old amps though.

He still has some in stock if you end up deciding to buy one.

Forgot my badge at home today, realized this when I got to work. Thankfully the HR hottie was walking in from the lot at the same time. Chatted her up, and she let me in the building.

HR hottie chatted me up again today. Her office is on the ground floor, and mine is on the second. Dont think she needed to follow me upstairs to continue our conversation....

In other news, I think I have a project in the works again now that I have a few nights off a week.

This should be a go! I have my old female singer signed up with her electric violin. We were talking last night, and she, "is really getting in to distortion and fuzz" which can only be a good thing. Also have a guitarist and drummer in the works.

Could see if a dimarzio model one fit in the hole. Or just get a dedicated pedal eq for that particular bass.

Still haven't heard back about the job in Lake Havasu, AZ. Called once yesterday and am waiting to hear back from their HR person. Won't pester them, but I thought this was a good way to keep my name floating around their heads.

In other job search-related news (sorry so boring--it's the biggest part of what's on my mind these days) I had an interview Monday for a Library Director job in a town about 3.5 hrs away from where I am now, up near Tulsa. I much prefer that part of the state and lived in Tulsa for years, so that wouldn't be a terrible move even though I'd rather get out of Oklahoma altogether. I got a call back about that job and they are going to do a conference call interview #2 with me today. I really believe this will result in a job offer.

Finally, just found out a town 20 miles down the road from me needs a Library Director too. I don't know what it pays, but this is Indian Territory / rez town with mostly Native American population (I used to work at the DHS in that town)--lots of casinos and a lot of money around. I just submitted my application and other materials to them.

If I can't get out of Oklahoma for awhile, I'd rather live up near Tulsa, but this other job wouldn't require a move at all.

Why do all (at least most) drummers seem so damn flaky?

I dunno man, I'm numb to it at this point. I did my best to have no expectations going in. I'm holding a very slight hope that he will come around and might just be busy, since he seemed cool in person and even made a comment about how he hates musicians who flake out and how he wasn't able to start the type of band he wanted to back in Michigan. So maybe he's just busy and is going to get back to me, but I can't hang too much hope on it. I'm trying to gear up to just writing solo material. Right now the hardest thing is just caring enough to do anything, I'm kind of emotionally burnt out right now, need to rally.

Prolly not the place to ask but I figure why not. Probably won't ask in the world since TB will get crazy. I want a 5 string Swiss Army knife similar to my 4 string jazz. By that meaning buckers, active/passive, light, and not wide string spacing. Looking for something under $1500, any suggestions? Really would like even cheaper but figure I would open the floor some.

Used or Tribute G&L 2500?

I'm prolly talking out of my azz, but did Fender make a Jaguar fiver? I remember that had active/passive optionality.

Edit: looks like the Fender Jag has active/passive, but no fiver. Squier has a fiver but w/o active/passive.

My dream bass is some high end single cut job but I would settle for a nice $600 guy if it's got the right stuff. A passive option is low on the list bit would be nice to have. I'm just thinking out my rear end. I should just set up another bass for B I just don't have one I would do it to other then the ibanez I have on loan. I'm not on a timeline either so no rush. Brainstorming

Take a look at the current Carvin models. They truly are a great value.

The Brian Bromberg gets a bunch of positive feedback. I really like the vanquish models too.

Carvin on the used too...
