Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

pippi my kitten died from complications brought on from swallowing sulfur skin treatment ointment, they think she had something majorly wrong with her to begin with and the poisoning just made it so she couldn't fight anymore, i saw her about an hour before she died, she couldn't eat and her breathing was super heavy, didn't know what to do, i was kinda shocked, went to my friend's vintage music place to think about if i wanted to put her to sleep and to charge my iphone, when i went back they said she died already, really not a fun afternoon, i hope nobody irritates me at work tomorrow, because in all likelihood i will probably make them bite the curb in the parking lot, the joys of being a failed animal rescuer and a unappreciated art teacher

Sorry to hear about this, man. I had two cats die in the space of a couple years, just random illnesses that killed them, nothing I could have done, but I felt like a terrible pet owner for a long time.

Is it only me or we get a lot of lukewarm albums this year? New Ufomammut is so underwhelming that if it was recorded by some unknown band, it would never be noticed. New Windhand is just plain boring, just more of the same repetitive Electric Wizard worship. OK, Elder's Lore is amazing, new Uncle Acid is pretty good. But it just seems (at least to me) that our genre is eating its own tail a bit.

I felt that way about ufomammut until I saw it live. Then I went back to it. The uncle acid is exceptional, if you add in runaway girls. Which they did not play.
I'm still not done cranking the new monolord.

New Clutch. New Kylesa. If it ain't hitting, go off the reservation. That country band horse power was great.

Right now in my car it's Molior Superum.Music | Molior Superum

Ufomammut are always awesome live, I think they are one of those bands that are better live than on their albums.
New Clutch sounds OK, haven't got the time to listen to it properly.
Monolord is awesome.
I guess it just hit me on one of Facebook's doom/stoner groups, people drool over almost everything.

the whole genre is becoming extremely cookie cutter. new albums that i actually liked this year are:
Garden of Worm - Idle of Stones
Elder - Lore
Horisont - Odyssey
Leeches of Lore - Motel of Infinity

there might be 1 or 2 more but otherwise that's it. I've been very disappointed with what's been coming out the last 2-3 years. no originality.

monolord, windhand, uncle acid, graveyard, kadavar the list can go on and on, all the same recycled songs.

but at least they tried to do something different. take a chance. i respect that a lot more than a band that has 2 songs that they just rearrange a few times and call it an album.

Yea I respect that they were brave enough to make a change. But I hate that change. I loved them when they were heavy, and groovy, with those awesome epic vocal melodies. New album isn't heavy, the vocals are way different, and it just seems to lack all energy.

I didn't want Acryphon round two, but High Country isn't even recognisable as the same band.

Also - squanch I hope you like the receiver!

Man it is a thing of beauty, very sharp, understated looks, not tons of bells and whistle. Only thing I didn't realize was I need a damn digital audio to video convertor to run it with my tv. I tried a million ways to hook it up to the tv last night and no luck. I think what I need is an optical digital audio to rca convertor, I think? Maybe I should of went with an AV receiver instead.

The new Sword album absolutely sucked ass as well. Really really disappointed.
Yeah its a really weird album. Its O K but really poppy. I see what they tried to do but they kinda failed at it. I think if they went more blues-rocky like a Black Keys type thing they'd be a lot better. Problem with the Sword is the same as recent Baroness, dudes just aren't that good a singer to do that kind of music and it really shows.

sorry buddy, we lost one to coyotes, one to kitty fading syndrome, and now this, i'm kinda thinking the dogs are a lot more durable

I thing out of all my pets at our mini zoo I think our Timneh African grey parrot is my favorite. I could be happy with just the parrot, my two ornate Uromastyx lizards, and out micro pot-belly pig. I do love the dogs and the cats and all the other critters but they are my favorites.
