Pup covers on that Squier are far more cream-colored than white. Just wash out in the pic.

Also, never have gotten a really good pic of the bass' true color...fairly dark blue, but sort of deep oceanic...the slight greenish element in the paint doesn't really come out.

I'm really happy with how this thing plays and sounds. Got a little under $150 total into it. Probably replace the tuners with the next string change, but otherwise, it's a better instrument than it has any right to be.

Next up, going to fix up my old SX/Rondo P bass...black guard on black body w/ maple fingerboard...it's getting an SPB-3 and some new SS rounds.

You can do as you suggested, but you might not have the upper midrange and high frequency response you want for those other instruments.

Most bass cabinets straddle the line between subwoofer and traditional PA tops. Having more bass response than the top and more midrange and highs than the subwoofer. Your dually and basic are in this category. Now as far as bass cabinets go, they do more of both bass frequency output and high frequency output but still wouldn't compete with a combined sub and top.

Not at all. You just asked the difference.

A HUGE number of PA's don't have subs. Alot just use tops and ignore largely everything under 100hz. Others use speakers that have close to fullrange response "the standard 2x15+horn" types. (Those kinds create serious mess of comb filtering in the bass region)
Realistically you can jam w/your friends with what you've got. Hell I've run a PA through a 4x12 guitar cabinet. Just will sound weird, and you won't be able to fix it via an EQ. You cabinet only has the frequency response it has. No amount a EQ will fill in the gaps.

$50 is awesome. I checked the serial on mine and it was made in 2000 or 2001 (can't remember.) also not sure how long that color was around. really like the neck on mine. Not a single dead spot. Got the action real low. The stock pickup actually sounded really good in it (and I still have it kicking around) but I had this one from an old beloved 70s MIJ P-copy I had been wanting to use again in something for a very long time...

Yeah the neck felt nice. The action was super low and fast with no buzz and the pickups sounded like Strat pups should.

Anyone here dig Pelican? Someone tried to turn me onto them about 8-10 years back and I remember liking what I heard but life got busy and, you know...too many bands, too little time...

But I recently snagged Australasia and The Fire In Our Throats and I have to say, I like what I'm hearing for the most part.

The band is old news, I know, but I always like finding something new (to my ears) and I do love instrumental stuff. Maybe not good enough to shake the foundations of the Earth, but anymore I'm thankful just to find anything that doesn't outright suck.

I dig em'. And the name always hits me because I was eating on a restaurant right on the inter-coastal waterway in Sebastian Florida. There was a boat dock on the restaurant and a boat gas station right next door. Well pelicans would hang out there. The waitress just delivered this round bread they serve and after she walked away a pelican swooped up by where we were sitting and let up this massive poop. We jumped back and it landed square on the bread she just served us. Timing is everything.

I love early Pelican, specifically Australasia. That EP was awesome. I saw Pelican at Bonnaroo one year and was decidedly underwhelmed.

My most expensive bass (currently owned) is the SX that cost me $130 shipped. I do have closer to $150 in the Squier, but thing is, I have owned high-end and vintage basses in my day. I used to have a matching trio of 1964 Fenders--burst/tort/rosewood...one P and two Js (one was fretless) and have owned other pre-CBS Fender basses and guitars, 70s Gibsons, nice Music Man stuff, several $1200+ basses, etc., etc.

I am fine with having nice things but after decades of having stuff get damaged, stolen, destroyed in natural disasters, etc. these days I am more than content to just have El Cheapos, fix them up the way I like them, and then I don't have to worry about them as an investment, or something too costly to replace or repair, etc. But I still end up with perfectly playable, giggable instruments with good, reliable electronics.

If anything it makes FAR more sense to me to put real $$$ towards amplification.

PS-- Wish I could have been at the show...

Thanks! We're doing ruff demos this weekend and I'll make a Bandcamp page to share when they're ready. We probably won't do proper recordings for a few months.

Not only is one of the faitals for my dually KIA, I just caught bummer news from the tech I took my crest and V4B to.

The Ampeg is fixable and is going to run me $250 to get it fixed. Sucks that it's not actually my amp not anything I did to it, just maintenance of a 40 year old amp.

The crest is toast. Apparently it needs a whole board replacement. They couldn't get it to recognize a signal at all. By the time it would be fixed, I'd be ~$50 shy of buying a brand new one. The seller had nothing to say and no receipt to file a warranty claim when I had asked him previously. Not really sure what to do with it. It just won't feel right throwing an amp in the dumpster, but I wouldn't really feel right selling it for parts knowing it's essentially just a chassis and knobs that are salvageable.


****. I have a show this Friday, the 13th. I'm not superstitious but I really hope my Beta and 2000s survive as I have nothing else to use at the moment.

Pork Loin on guitar. Yes/No? I'm wanting something fat sounding, but overdriven. Thinking bluesy doom style. Would it work? I figure I've probably got this covered on my bass rig with my JohnK Gamma Bass OD, but not quite on my guitar rig. The Real Tube pedal I have isn't quite cutting it. What say you, should I investigate the Pork Loin on guitar?

Damn, So much uncool... So you're paying for the full repair of the v4 That's nice, but terrible.

What model crest is it? I can probably source the board so if you can install it yourself we might be able to get it going for not much $$$.

Yeah. I'm hoping that my buddy will either go halfsies or consider the repair cost a down payment towards the purchase of the amp from him. I'm also willing to just payout and take the hit because I feel responsible being in possession and what not, though the first two options are preferential.

It's a Prolite 3.0. That sounds awesome. I'm fairly DIY capable, but have very limited knowledge of electronics and the idea of working on a power amp kind of freaks me out. If sourcing a new board is possible I'd love to get that info from you though.



Trying to stay positive about it all. At least I don't have to ship the dually anywhere and can just ship the speaker... That's about all I got.
