Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Well, I have a good friend who has both. Actually I think he sold off the Korg. He is really into the Microbrute and this guy has all kinds of synths at his disposal including ones he's built himself into his own homemade boxes one piece at a time...filter here, VCO there...he keeps saying if I want a good all-analog patchable synth that is a good price and that will keep me occupied forever, the Brute's the thing.
Plus, I've been looking at tons of demo vids and I have to agree. I used to collect old analog synths years back. Been a long time since I had one. Back then, my prizes were a Realistic branded Moog (yes, they used to sell Moogs at Radio Shack!) and an old WASP. The WASP was problematic but I like the way it never functioned the way it was supposed to so the results were completely unpredictable. Hell, even non-functional WASPs sell for over a grand now easy, IF you can find one (rarer than hen's teeth outside the UK too.)
It's true, we aren't very nice, but that's why we can't bend to the level of the criminals and terrorists as the good of society we claim to be. Or punish society as a whole. The news today said only one gun out of the arsenal of stuff was a legal bought gun btw. Could be wrong info, but that's what I heard.
We are given a lot of freedom, and stuff happens, but to lose the freedoms given and supposedly undeniable to us, makes the opportunity for stuff to happen even greater.
Guns may be more dangerous today, but our privacy is more compromised than ever. To function in today's society you basically have to lay parts of your life out there and hope companies play ball, and the government has no place laying into that just because it can. There's still warrants and due process.
If we did indeed allow the government to reduce our rights to arms, to privacy and allow it to do so without a our popular vote, that would indeed put all citizens at the level of a felon (aside from the employment difficulty associated with it).
That coupled with the idea of our government torturing it's own people (or anyone). Is basically a nightmare situation no? And we'd sanction this? I feel while gun violence needs to be solved and dealt with critically, I think fundamentally eliminating what hundreds of thousands of Americans have fought and died for since the revolution far outweighs the modest relief if any the removal of our rights would bring.
We may be in dark times, but we don't need to return to the dark ages.
Not a gun owner currently but pretty much always owned them up until I had kids. Dumped them when I got married because my stepson (who was 6 when I married his mom) was such a gun freak--totally unteachable. Couldn't try to show him it was a tool and not something from an action flick. If I'd kept one around, I just feel like bad poopie would have resulted.
Now that he's long out of the house and my (much more mature) daughters are in their teens, I think it's time to pick something up again soon.
I don't wanna get banned or veer this into an overtly politico-religious discussion, but for my money, guns aren't so much the problem; it's religion.
I don't know what the motivation was behind the San Ber'dino shootings, but the big mental disorder to me is not guns but religious fervor when it infects already weak and overzealous fundie minds.
The biggest problem is our country and a majority of it's people is that they can't engage in a fact based discussion on anything.
They would rather do the whole "Conservative vs. Liberal" thing and never give an inch so that nothing get's done.
Sprinkle in some half truths, anecdotes and random off-base statistics and you get our current state of things.
One thing that is interesting on the gun debate is how people argue it, the CDC website (Center for Disease Control) is a great fact checker when it comes to crime/guns/violence.
It's fun to see who is lying/bending the truth.

To be fair there is a very large difference in population between the US(320m) & France(64m).
Now back to reality.
I borrowed a Frank Bello FB4 ESP/LTD from a friend. It is pretty awesome (First time playing a higher end ESP/LTD)
He wants to trade it for a T-40 and I'm pretty tempted.
It's active but much different tonally from the active GBass I play.
They would rather do the whole "Conservative vs. Liberal" thing and never give an inch so that nothing get's done.
Sprinkle in some half truths, anecdotes and random off-base statistics and you get our current state of things.
One thing that is interesting on the gun debate is how people argue it, the CDC website (Center for Disease Control) is a great fact checker when it comes to crime/guns/violence.
It's fun to see who is lying/bending the truth.

Yeah, Franklin wasn't living in a world where mass shootings were commonplace. He wanted firearms to keep the king of England out of his face, but I think he would feel differently if he were alive today.
I was seriously impressed by it, even without the mod. Didn't try it on guitar as the AC-12 is in pieces but really dug it for bass. Really made the LH1000 sound KILLER, not to mention the SVT.
I have been running it through my JGR rock pre, crest prolite, and my F212 with the tweeter on max, and the mid driver switched up. Even with the cab set the way it is, with my Tele I am getting tones that would make the pickiest guitard drool. I set the JGR right on the verge of break up, then let the PL really sing. With bass, switching between series and parallel pick ups on my AB1 really shows you the overdrive mid character.
Love it, at this point it has turned my TH in to a DI/pre only....
It's got me more interested in the Way Huge stuff, if the rest of it is as nice as the PL then maybe I've been missing out. Pretty reasonably priced too, for what you're getting.
Decided I'm going to build an op-amp Muff as my next pedal, found a kit from the same place I got my Rat PCB. Should be fairly easy to mod/improve. Then I'll probably crank out a few Rats to sell.
Getting the rest of the parts I need for the AC12 tomorrow, hopefully I can work on that this weekend. Still trying to decide if I want to replace the speaker.
Decided I'm going to build an op-amp Muff as my next pedal, found a kit from the same place I got my Rat PCB. Should be fairly easy to mod/improve. Then I'll probably crank out a few Rats to sell.

All I meant was the worlds scary, but we don't need to let fear in the moment dictate how we allow ourselves to react. we are by and large a civil nation, and we can't allow the crazy to determine how the rest of us must live.
But England was gone and he still wanted guns just in case for a hypothetical return. They did return once though, so he wasn't wrong.
I think he's just as likely to see the violence in the streets and want to carry a gun just as much as he'd be inclined to eliminate them. It's a coin toss as we really don't know beyond face value what he's said.
Current owner of a target .22 I really don't need. Sorry for stirring stuff up and sounding wacky if you think so. It just sucks we live in a time where people do this, and we are forced to endure the repercussions whatever they may be.
If the speakers anywhere near the (lack of) quality of my stock music master speaker id get a new one and box up the old just in case. someone might enjoy the speaker, but I'd be afraid to crank a fuzz into it.
I own a .22 and a 12 gauge, both bolt action oddly enough. I respect everyone's opinions here, and i apreciate being able to have actual discussions about things like this.
As for the combo amp, the stock driver is quite strong and I've gotten pretty loud without stressing it too much. I think it's an Altec, label is long gone though. Regardless, it IS 45 years old so I'll put something else in there. We sell Eminence at work so that's probably what I'll go for, just need to decide which one.
