Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

But @D.M.N. That does appear to be the elusive 400w 2000s so that may be a museum piece. I'd consider offering 2-2.5k for that. No more. Who knows the honest condition if the seller doesn't even know the wattage. I'd be very hesitant.

Yeah, it would be nice to get some more info on it, but honestly the 400w isn't too off putting. People get that from looking at the power draw on the back (the sticker), so it's a bit understandable. Like the seller says, they're selling it for someone, so they probably aren't too up on knowledge of the gear. If it weren't on the other side of the goddamn country I'd probably already be trying to sell off stuff to grab it.

I just accidentally insulted a Coldplay fan...haha.
He told me that they are the best band in the last 20 years and that I have awful taste in music.

Accidentally? I always very meaningfully insult Coldplay fans. It's like U2 Lite. Blech.

tomorrow is gonna suck some serious butt, gotta go visit my friend in a coma who the doctors are gonna unplug on sunday, he had a seizure and a heart attack on thursday, which i would assume was brought on from his wasted lifestyle of the last 30 years, he could sing and play the guitar way better than a lot of guys I know, he loved to party though, so much so that in the last 8 years i think we only hung out a few times when he wasn't out of it

Sorry about your friend. Been through family unpluggings. Brutal but it eases to see them off those horrible machines and finally at peace.

Do you think that asking price is fair? I mean I know the cabs are hens teeth and whatnot, but from the description they don't sound like 2000s cabs. Which, if they aren't, drops their value to about $300 a piece. I so want another 2000s, but I feel it's going to be a huge chunk of guap or a fight through a sea of people that think it's worth $2k+.

Re: Coldplay

One of the worst successful bands I've ever heard. U2 lite is a complimentary understatement. I'm always baffled how I can play some of their biggest singles back to back to Coldplay fans, and the fans simply cannot hear that the bands most recognizable tunes are ALL the same facking chord progression. I wish I could write the same song three or four times and bank serious cash doing it.

I figure if the head's in great condition, let's say on the high side it's worth $1500 (it'd need to be museum condition really). Then let's say the cabs are $500 a piece (not bad given that pairs of JBLs can go for $300+ these days, which is nuts), add in OG covers, and good condition, I'd say $3000 isn't crazy, but it's not something I'd be willing to fork over, even though you can sorta get away with a premium for having the matching head and cab (let alone 2 cabs). $2500? That'd be fair I think, though by no means a steal. In relation to other modern gear you can buy, there's a lot in the boutique Bass amp range that get up to $2000-2500 for the head, so in the grand scheme that's not doing too shabby for a head and cabs. Those are definitely 1000s series cabs, and I'm 85% sure they're the proper 2000s cabs. You can see the JBL dustcaps, the speakers are centered, and they're the 30" wide cabs. The 1500s cab with 2 D15S speakers (essentially D130s), but the top speaker was offset I believe to accommodate a horn. Generally, I'd value the heads at somewhere around $1000 (obviously there are better deals out there), but I've increasingly seen them go for a bit north of that. However, seeing them listed for $2000 for the head alone is comical. Sure, if you were buying a new head of the same quality (build quality, parts, hand wired, etc), it would probably be in that ballpark, but these simply aren't worth that monetary wise (at least, yet), even if their value is (if you get what I'm saying).

U2 Lite is not a compliment coming from me. I HATE U2 SO MUCH. ARGGAHGHATEIYTBKUYTSREY%A. Wankers.

I bought a cheap defaced Hail Satan Deluxe, I think I'm going to try and etch it with this. Hopefully halftones work okay.
Gremlins is my favorite Christmas movie.

@mpdd Sorry man.

Epic!!!

T-shirt delivery was a success. Walk into bank managers office and she is straightening out her miniskirt and knee high bang-me boots. Plus three hotties in the office today doing a special project. And a dry, sunny, 55 degree day for field work. Friday!!!

When you describe it like that, it seems more reasonable. Thanks for the value info. Also, U2 blows. I guess what I meant was Coldplay should take that as a compliment despite the suffix of "lite" being rather diminishing because they are obscenely terrible. At they same time they should also understand that your mildly backhanded compliment was not heartfelt and that you couldn't care less about their cheesy low brow attempt to be U2.

You could buy a really nice rig for $2500. I love Sunn as much as the next guy, but to drop that kind of coin on a vintage rig that might need work and probably isn't doom-loud? I'd take an SVT-CL + 810 over that any day of the week.

Is at sexy-looking as a Sunn rig? No.

Will it level buildings and suffocate people in tar-thick low end? Hell yes.

I actually think an SVT 810 rig is far more practical than most rigs in a live setting. At the same time I love the sound of my 2000s and would take it over just about anything for recording as well as live if it were loud enough by itself all the time.

Based off being to a couple of your shows: Brother, you need MOAR watts. Efficient is fine, but when I am standing 3 ft from the stage and barely able to hear you because singer boys marshalls are jacked to 11? That shizz is unacceptable :) Keep the vintage stuff for recording, and get an SVT or a SS amp/pre set up. Just my $.02
