It's mostly old dudes over there...they get stuck in their own dogma from time to time. Some great folks too, but some head scratchers for sure :)

Most of the GB cabs use high XMax drivers so their advantage only really shows when you've got ~350w+ per driver. Great output with that. Maybe average output below that. Honesty about 700w into my 12\6/1 and it starts doing magic tricks nothing that small should be capable of.
The Dually shouldn't have such limitations though. Its a high efficiency design.

I just thought it was silly that when I was asking for help for a particular amp that folks kept telling me to sell the amp and get a lightweight class d.

I have nothing against class d amps and think some of them sound great. I just wish I would have gotten more replies like yours above.

I'm pretty set on getting a bassic 15 4ohm Faital or the Eden 115xt 4ohm to pair with the bag end.

This is the truth. I really like my beta. I have been considering the idea of building a headshell for it with a 2 or 3U rack built in. I could use the beta and run each channel in stereo, or I could run effects to the beta and clean to my svpcl. Either way the real bummer is that busted Prolite. I need to get another power amp.

Yeah there are one or two individuals over there that are why i don't go back much. I used to be very involved in the community but the bitterness of those few burned me out.

Certainly, there are great rigs to be had at that price point. However, I think I come at it from a bit of a different angle. I'm not really looking to push massive lowend, otherwise I'd need to be looking at 300w minimum probably, so the 100w-200w range with efficient cabs is more useful to me as far as pushing the amps to the edge of dirt and really pushing the mids/low mids. Without the need to push so much lows, you cant get a bit louder before mush sets in.

I also have no hesitation as far as it being vintage gear that might need work. ANY gear will need work eventually, old or new, and barring the transformers, just about all of the guts are replaceable.

But if I were going for something with more lowend umph and power, I'd be looking at Hiwatts or their derivatives (HiTone, Reeves). I just have no love for Ampegs. I've tried SVTs a number of times, and they always just sound muffled to me. Even the SVT Heritage I tried. More power in the lows certainly, but felt the mids and highs were stifled. I'd like to try one through some of the 2000s cabs, I feel some of that muffle might be more in part due to the 8x10 fridge than the head. Actually, it's been a few years, maybe I should give the whole setup another go sometime.

@Turkeypills there's a 2000s on evil bay at the moment, a late '68 or early '69 from the looks of it, but it's a bit on the high side. If it were like...$1100-1200, it would be a pretty decent. There's also a few 1200s on Reverb, but again, a bit pricey.

Quick question fellas,

So when I'm playing the ray35 I'm noticing the pickup sounds like it's breaking up or clipping the input stage,
even when it's turned down low it makes that fuzzy type of sound so it doesn't seem like it's the gain clipping the input.

Any ideas what might be going on?

There's a great deal of very popular music I enjoy. I'm not concerned about always being into obscuro sh!t and I ceased caring at all about hipster cred more than half my life ago.

But it does seem (and increasingly since the 80s, though perhaps that is due in part to my geezerism) that there is less and less popular music that strikes me as good or worthwhile.

Good music is always there. You just have to constantly dig deeper and deeper to find it IMO.

Speaking as makers of music, do you guys ever feel that the music is already there in a sense--out in the ether somehow-- and we are sort of conduits or antennae just picking it up and shaping it into forms everyone can hear?

I think that sometimes. That music was here long before us and we just discover it. That music wants to be heard so very badly that it finds out people to give it a voice.

Hate getting all sappy and pretentious and pseudo-philosophical, but music is the most powerful and most magic(k) force I know of. To me it encompasses love and prayer and meditation and the entire spectrum of art, emotion and energy. Of human-ness and everything beyond that.
