It is one of the reasons I was really glad they came out with the Combustion series 4. Body was routed for the bridge humbucker position which is what I loved about the MM's tonally.

It is one of the reasons I was really glad they came out with the Combustion series 4. Body was routed for the bridge humbucker position which is what I loved about the MM's tonally.
I had a Ibanez Roadstar and a Fenandes take on the Musicman style and thought they were way too treble sounding, but I diddled a Musicman a few months back and found it more middy than treble, I can see the love for them now.
They have a sound for sure. I still think that they uber bass would have a humbucker and a split coil in the P pick up area.... Which is probably what my next dingwall will have.
Way way back I did have a p bass partscaster modded for a MM pickup in the bridge position but it wasn't placed in the proper sweet spot. Added some nice grind though.
I miss my Stingray, even though it was a budget SBMM model. Didn't get rid of it for tone reasons, just needed the money and it was worth something. Ditto with the ATK I bought cheap to replace it. Been fighting the hemorrhaging of my gear fund all year, but I'm holding on to my P-basses and my Drake Custom as long as possible.
Considered getting a Sub for a bit before I got the ATK. Pretty happy with the Ibanez so I'm not too broken up about not having some sort of stingray.
Friend of mine has had a EBMM ray for many years, says he'll never get rid of it and nothing will ever replace it as his daily-driver bass. Pretty solid endorsement.

Not exactly the same, but close enough to serve the same purpose tonally, I think. At least I replaced my Stingray with an ATK 200 (90's one) and was happy with it. The feel is much different and it really depends on which models you're comparing too, to be honest.

I guess these Ibanez Roadgear models were sort of in the Stingray tone ballpark too. That upper horn area is little fugly though like a Starter Girlfriend Bass.
Yeah.... gotta stay away from the ladies with the lower horns...

Yeah it was out about ten years back I believe. I played one at a local Mom and Pop music store when I still lived in PA. It was beefy.
I'm not all that satisfied with tonal differences with the ATK pickup. Even with the three coils it all sounds so similar. I just keep it in humbucker position and EQ flat. Make tonal adjustments on the pedals and preamp.
Have been considering another warmoth build for years a G4 to match my Gecko has been the thought lately. Toying around I place the MM pickup in the sweet spot on the build sheet.
