Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

@CL400Peavey I thought you might dig this. I never heard of them but a kava buddy sent me their link, Doom Jazz they call themselves. Bass player uses a upright or double bass, whatever the eff those big bastards are called?

I think that the guitarist is using an old Traynor head Corey.

Has anyone any experience with the EHX 44 magnum?

Seems like a cool solution for someone who might want to use smaller power section for home practice without another amp taking up space or turning down.

They seem interesting, almost picked one up used, but went in another direction with my gas. I had planned to put one inside a cow skull I have to make a skullifier.

I assume bass might breakup or fart more/earlier due to tiny tiny transformers.

Someday I'll do the skullifier. Needs a trem or fuzz to make diode clipping eyes.

have a happy new years everybody!!! new direction: playing really trebly piano type leads in the new year, cause the guitarist is going all sunn 0: on me, yesterday i finally secured a live drummer (the producer who did our demos last year)

last week somebody od'd and was revived pulp fiction style at my friend's wake, been kinda offline for a little while

bought myself a vintage nikon superzoom, so if you see me in your neighborhood with a camera lens the size of somebody's arm don't be alarmed, just photographing birds and police helicopters,

don't eat the yellow snow, mike

I have my basement shop / music room. It's small and messy but it's mine.

Mike, condolences about your friend, and i hope the other friend gets better. Tough sh*t to deal with.

Home sick today, against my better judgement spent some time at the bench with the AC12. I had replaced all the electrolytic capacitors but when I turned it on it wasn't making sound. Just a barely audible, super distorted signal coming out of the speaker.

I rechecked all the wiring, reflowed a couple of solder joints and tried again- nothing. I decided to connect it to one of my 15" bass cabs with a long cable so i could leave it on the bench, turn it on and start tracing. So I did that, turned it on and noticed that the 12DW7 in V3 wasn't lighting up. Praying to the god of the tube amp gremlins, i ordered a replacement tube.

Tube got here today, i plugged it in, fired it up and the amp works! Just spent about an hour and a half putting it through the paces and it sounds SO killer. Not having to worry about blowing the vintage driver i put the amp on ten and got a decent amount of OD. Much more than before, but i did swap the old weak 12AU7 in the preamp for a new JJ 12AX7, with probably helped it overdrive a bit.

Guitar with superfuzz, homebrew rat and od glove just sounded amazing and running at 8 or above yielded beautiful blooming feedback. Plugged in the ATK, no effects and boom - poor man's B15. Diming it offered fairly aggresive od that would work well for noise rock, which was a surprise. Pushing mid and low eq on the bass drove the input harder and gave me even more distortion. Low end was huge and present, especially for an amp with only a tone knob. Part of that it's due to the bass cab, but it sounds full.

All in all pretty pumped!

Love the Milestone! I saw Stinking Lizaveta at another club here in Charlotte this year and they were rad. Really fun to watch.

Edit: I think I played that show if I'm not mistaken; we opened up for Felix Martin, that crazy 14 stringed tapping prog-metal guy.

Happy new year, doombros! Hope everybody had a safe and fun night. Wife and i stayed in and watched bbc detective shows. I got blasted on kava and herbage and slept like a rock for 10 hours. Turning the corner on the virus and heading to the hardware store for some crimp on ring terminals. Replacing the 2 prong cable on the AC12 today and putting it back into the shell.

Trem still doesn't work, so I'll need to order a replacement module from fliptops.

After that I'll just have the speaker left to replace and it'll be good to go for another 45 years. I'm having a blast with this project, super fun and satisfying!
