Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Parachute Wah

So this new Tech Support job is going pretty great. Just spent 40 minutes on the phone trying to help a lady access her email.

"So, do you know what web browser you're using, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox?"
"I have AVG"
"Okay, that's your anti-virus, but do you have a web browser to open"
"I have an internet if that's what you mean"
"Okay, if you look in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, can you click the Windows emblem there and open your start menu"
"It says Amazon and Ebay and Yahoo."
"Oh, okay, do you have a web browser open? Can you get to webpages?"
"Yes, I can search the internet"
"Okay, type in <insert webpage address> and press enter"
"Okay, let me open AVG."
"No, just clear the address bar at the top of your screen where it says the website name"
"Okay, I clicked it"
"Okay, now delete all of that."
"How do I delete things"
"Well, I generally use the backspace/delete button..."

AND SO ON

That sounds like the worst thing ever.

Got a tour of the peavey booth today, one Mr Bobby Bld showed us the new bass amps. The 1516 cab will be shipping in a couple months, so my rep was wrong.

Also, attn Max: there's a 1×18 powered sub designed for use with guitar. Could be a worthy addition to the henge.

Never owned a jazz bass in my life but have been thinking lately that maybe I should do I went down the rabbit hole all day reading, comparing, etc.

A few decent YouTube clips, but as always it's mostly a clip of some dude playing new agey kinda chords followed by a bunch of slapping. Who plays like that except these dudes that make YouTube videos?!

Seriously. Either demos are overly slap/new age chord heavy, or absolutely terrible quality. I feel like I should pickup some decent recording gear and do some gear demos just to put out more riff based/not-slappy-chord examples of stuff. You know what'd be a great jazz bass demo? PLAYING SOME ZEPPELIN.

Saw that...looks kinda cool but Im leary of all the extra "crap" in it. I dont have the greatest luck with crossovers and stuff like that.

Also marketing a sub to guitarists seems like just adding to the problem of guitarists not leaving sonic room for bassists...leave the bass to bassists.

All I want is Peavey too acknowledge my love for them and make me a 300 watt tube Vulcan and a pair of 218s. Is that so much to ask?

Gotta try a SJ4...

That 1516 is one of the few production cabinets I've been excited about recently.
Glad it's not canned.
The Headliner 1k should be killer, i just hate graphic EQs.

The 300w subwoofer thing is kinda disappointing from a guitar POV too. I don't see this keeping up with more than a 50w 2x12. It's basically a bass combo without a preamp. Still a speaker level input is nice for the luddite guitarist.

Dingwall SJ4? I sorta have one except mines a P/J. It's a really cool bass and sounds great but two things make me want to get a Fender, or Fender style J.

I have played a normal SJ and though they sound fantastic, they don't really sound like a 60's style J. That's not a dis because I prefer the sound of my SJ most of the time.

Dingwalls don't really like to be beat on. Digging in too hard doesn't work so great, at least on mine. I'd kinda like something I can dig into a little deeper and will still sound right.

Wait, a third thing- I really like keeping round wounds on the SJ. Wouldn't mind trying a J with flats to have another option on hand

Didn't realize that. Also agree about guitarists hogging low end. Headliner 1000 into 1516 sounded mean as **** though. Also they have 500W amps and cabs designed for steel guitar with ALUMINUM RAILS. I was way too pumped about that, haha.

So lemme get this straight. They brought back the 2x8+15 and made an 18" for guitar? Whats up with this? No 18s for bass? This is why I stick to vintage PVY. I love them, but they kinda lost themselves along the way.
