Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Hmmm, I'd be running a Rat Tail and Bluebeard through it...

Food for thought!

I find it takes pedals pretty well to be honest - Joyo UD into the VT is tone heaven as far as I'm concerned. I did have issues with my Swollen Pickle though - it just ends up sounding really over-compressed.

If you're in Edinburgh you're welcome to pop down the practice room at some point and give mine a shot?

I'm in Dundee man but very kind of you to offer! Been listening to a few demos and think I'm going to go for it :)

I wonder if the BB would be similar to the SP... Can't find a sample but I imagine the Rat Tail would sound good through it!

this is getting me through the work morning (along with black tea)

it's like stoner king crimson

also not stoner doom related (maybe slightly) - the guy from Royal Blood has a bass setup that is worthy of a look at. clean bass through SVT/fridge, distorted bass through guitar amp, then octave up distorted bass through another guitar amp. there's some other octave down/subharmonic trickery going on as well in the cleans. i haven't heard such a distinct sound in 'pop' music in quite a while.

Royal Blood are great. Got into them months ago when the alternative radio station down here was spinning their first single "Out of the Black". Loved everything about the song and got the EP soon as it was made available. Seeing them next month along with another solid local Sydney act. Their first show sold out in less than a day so they had to announce a second show to meet demand.

ah, i didn't know they were aussies - makes sense, my boss listens to the standard rock/alternative radio at work and they are being played 2-3 times a day at least.

edit: started playing right as i clicked post!

Nah, they're not Aussie. Sorry, I should have phrased that better.

They're a UK band but they're touring Australia next month and a great Sydney band is supporting them for the Sydney shows.
