Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I would hella buy one of those if I was rich. They look really good and have a pretty extensive preamp for a tube amp.

But would it slam like the Mesa?

When I think Sadowsky, I think crystal clear and "modern vintage". Admittedly I do not have a lot of experience playing Sadowskys. I'm sure this amp sounds great but I'd be skeptical that it would deliver what I wanted from an amp.

Edit 2: if I was rich though I'd totally buy one as well.

Dunno, but there's only one way to find out.

Holy balls Earth was freaking incredible last night. Saw them last year in a crowded small club and it was great. Last night they were at a theater with a HUGE PA. Along with Dylan and Adrienne was a 2nd guitarist that also played Moog Taurus pedals pretty much the entire time. Those low-end drones - amped and direct out to the PA with stacks of massive subs were huge and all-encompassing. It was LOUD and completely engrossing. One of the best shows I've seen in years.

Nearly everyone I know flaked out after Boris cancelled, which was disappointing, but it made for an early night - was in bed by 11:00 - which I'm grateful for today.

4 more days till the wedding gig. Practice tonight. Likely the last with all members till the gig. Guitars and drummer got together last night to get the new guy prepped. Hope he's comfortable after tonight.
We still sound good as a 4 peice so either way it's gonna be a fun day.

Hmm, used Minimega? Vintage Acoustic Head? Unsexy but loud-as-balls Hartke LH1000? If you want to hook up a sh*tload of cabs the LH1000 can do TWO 2-ohm loads. That's a lot of speakers.
I haven't considered hartke at all. The biggest thing is, my XLS Crown doesn't feel like 1,000 watts. I'm pretty underwhelmed with my amp, after hearing my cab with a 500 watt Eden. Whatever I get, I want it to be loud as ballz. I have considered amps like, GK mb series, Aguilar tone hammer, Genz bens shuttle stuff, Carvin B series. And a few others. Definitely used at this price point. Thanks so far!

I used an 800W class D power amp for a bit and it certainly didn't seem that loud for its advertised rating. The Hartke will do an honest 1100W RMS - it's LOUD. Maybe even louder than my SVT. It is clean all the way up so you'll want pedals for dirt and it's a fender tone stack so mid is cut only. I never had an issue with that, my dirt pedals are all pretty mid-forward so I had plenty to work with.

I do think there's a difference between the older amp classes and the newer Class D / Switch Mode Power Supply stuff. Whether that's due to the current trend of overstating ratings, some inherent differences in the design or both - I've found that the older, heavier amps tend to be louder and more forcefully present.

Carvin is a good alternative. I've been really happy with the HD1500 power amp. Way more than I need, can't even go past 1/3 on the preamp main before I have to turn down. That's with just half stacks to compete with.
Way lighter than my SWR or the Trace that's on the way.

Looking at either a b1500, or b2000. Hearing a TBers story with the B1500 is what made me even think about trying Carvin in the first place.
