I've never plugged the Acapulco Gold into my bass rig, but it's great on the six string fo sho!

It sounds so good! I'll try to find a track of mine that has an example. I typically ran it an octave up on my rig, but there was a song or two where I would send my dry through it to a cranked 15w Vox amp. Literally sounds like an amp about to destroy itself!

I just buy my strings from Dingwall. They are not really more expensive (and in some cases less) than the strings I was putting on my parallel fret basses. There are other manufacturers for strings besides dingwall that work. I find that Sheldon has picked some great strings, and have no reason to go on a string tone quest.
I like the idea of a fanned fret, there's a Dingwall that's just appeared in the used section of my local Guitar Center and I sort of want to go down and try it out, except I can't afford it if I like it.
Try it. You still wont be able to afford it if you dont play it. At least you'll know how you like it.
NBD. Used Godin Shifter from MGR but looks brand spanking new. Unfortunately the setup is all wacked. It buzzes like an angry hornet nest. Some joker obviously tried to hide that by cranking the saddles all the way up.
I loosened to truss rod a bit to add some relief but it's still buzzy. It's going to take some time I guess. The one thing I don't have.

Neat cab....I run 2 Schroeder 1x15's with Neo drivers and really dig them. Jorg Schroeder is a solid dude too if you should ever need his help.

How does the amp distortion for the darkglass sound for doom/stoner? Almost all the demos I hear are more in the crunchy/od Motorhead-esque level not the crushing level we are all playing at for this genre. Right now I'm running a Fender 1200 and it sounds great but it weighs a metric ton and even though I'm a huge person I'm tired of carrying it so was looking at an MB800, Darkglass, or possibly the mesa subway d-800. I've been using an EHX Bass Big Muff Deluxe lately for distortion and I do like it but I'd like more a tubey grind without actually dealing with tubes you know.Quick rig shot...will be recording on Monday through this and I can't wait. Schroeders are badass btw I used to have a 410r sounded great. Slight tangent I'm running two Epifani PS115's and I'm surprised no one else in this thread uses them they sound incredible for doom/stoner once the speaker gets broken in and can be had used pretty cheap.
I love the Darkglass head - when I switched from an svt to that, I shaved 80 lbs off my rig.
For me the best part of the DG head is that it's so versatile. With other heads it was always like, "ok, ampegs sound like this, and I can tweak it a little to get what I want, but it's always going to sound like an ampeg." Not picking on ampeg, I've had a ton of heads and I always felt that I had to adapt the sound in my head to what the amp could do.
With the DG I feel like it's more of a blank canvas, that I can create whatever sound I want.
This is a clip from our last show, you can get an idea of what it sounds like in a room context.
I don't use a whole lot of grit but all the dirt is coming from the amp. I had the drive about 1/3 of the way up, and gain about 1/2 up, so it has a lot more on tap.
