Oh that is going to be amazing. I saw Primitive Man open for Weedeater and I was one green cookie and 5 beers in by that point and I never heard Primitive Man before, when the first chord struck I was pasted to the wall. F'n great show they put on.

Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Looks like whoever strung it cut the strings too short, or at least too short to string it through the body. Not enough windings around the posts, in my opinion. I haven't gotten around to buying new strings yet.
I've always done my own setup, but that's on my 25 year old US-made Fender P Plus. No buzzing, ever. This Godin is a bit puzzling.
I love Lo-Pan! I've been real busy the last year or so and haven't had a chance to check out the ep or a ton of other new stuff. I love getting lost in Samsara albums, turn em up and tune out. That first Egypt ep opened up a new world for me and I gotta say TF are a big favorite of mine. Can't ever get enough, best damn live show I've ever seen! They effin rocked out a small joint in Grand Rapids on mother's day a few years ago like they were playing an arena. There couldn't have been more than 30 peeps there. Those guys and All Them Witches have been a huge influence to me.
That looks awesome! I'll have to plan out a trip there one of these years. I even got family that way.
Hell yeah, whoever he is, I owe him big! I've learned about more bands that are just so amazing than from anywhere/one else.
Oh I forgot to add the SYC just sounds so damn tight, it blows my mind. Great riffs and jams.
Phew... yeah it was great! PM were pretty fierce as usual, 2nd time I've seen them. Bongripper were amazing live, such a great sound. I like the record but live was something else.

That sounds awesome, I've been killing to get to a good show lately. Might have to wait for when Elder and King Buffalo come round in October.
Stoned meadow of doom is one of the only things that makes my workday less boring. Best channel ever.
Lots of speakers? Oh yes, definitely (or a couple big ones). Extended range basses? Not actually that common. Some people, including people on this thread, use them and love them, but overall the stoner/doom metal genre is still very much dominated by 4-string basses, usually passive ones. I use an old ported 2x15" cab (a Sunn 2000S), but the cab I see most commonly used is actually the Ampeg 8x10. Tons of distortion with the pedalboards and amps, as well. Often tube heads, but not always.
I would say Sleep's Holy Mountain album, especially the title song, is a good intro to the genre. Electric Wizard's "Dopethrone" as well.
Basically, being extremely loud, usually slow, and often low tuned is kinda the summation of the genre.
Naturally, there are many branches of this genre, just like all genres. Kyuss is a great example of the more "stoner" and "rock" part, and then you have Yob and Graves at Sea embodying more of the "doom" part.
Some is just heavier, slower, louder rock, while other bands borrow extensively from other metal genres, especially for vocal style.

There isn't a "the Ric tone," lol. His is just one of many.
Every time I've seen Sleep his tone has been amazing, though.

I really dislike Egypt. Not personally, obviously. But their sound was a huge let-down for me, because I was hoping from the name and art that they'd be more, I don't know... different sounding.

I can definitely get where you're coming from with Egypt. They definitely don't give off an Egyptian vibe. I still love their unique sound within a lot of the genre.
I do love me some Sleep tho...
I dunno, I guess I was intrigued by the name and artwork, and very disappointed by the sound, which to me seemed somewhat derivative.
Sleep never led me to expect them to be anything other than Sabbath worship. So it's surprising at the times when they aren't.
Egypt's first album was cool but they lost me on the second. just more of the same, nothing seems to go anywhere I find. so if I'm in the mood I'll listen to the first one. i don't see the point to the 2nd album.
Played with the bands Abrams and Drawing Heaven last night. Pretty fun show.

Earlier we were talking about how awesome Stoned Meadow of Doom is but have you ever heard of Radio Caprice?. You need to get that app, I have it on my iphone and its amazing. Sometimes they will throw a tune on that totally doesnt belong there but its all doom stoner otherwise. You will love it.
I hate to cite the old creative differences cliche, but thats pretty much it. We noticed we were really struggling to make forward progress musically several months ago and really it came down to him being unable or unwilling to get into the same headspace as the drummer and I. After months of trying to get him to practice more and get on the same page as us we kind of gave up and asked him to leave. He was stuck in a rut playing 90s thrash style riffs amd solos that just wasnt working with the weird off time doom and prog riffs i was working on.
But in the end we spent months agonizing over trying to de-rut him before giving up and ended up losing a friend and a band mate.
I feel stupid, lied to, and betrayed.
I just found out Black Sabbath is not Heavy Metal,but is instead "proto' metal.
Real glad the Gen-Xers and Millenials set me straight on that. Such ignorance could'a been real embarrassing...
